Blogmas Day #25: Let’s Wrap This Up, Shall We?

I dropped the ball. I’m sorry. But let me take you through the last few days diary-style, so if you are interested keep on reading, if not, I’m not mad! I love you, thank you for giving me some of your precious time, I hope you enjoyed yourselves reading my blog, your participation made it all worth it!

Now to the other five of you that would like to know how my last few days went: just come along 🙂

On the 23rd of december I basically did nothing but clean. I cleaned the entire house which was a bit of a ride but VERY satisfying. My sister came home from bavaria, where she is currently doing a sort of volunteer year before going off to college next fall and at night we trimmed the tree as it is tradition in my family. We always put the tree up the night before christmas eve. When my sister and I were little my parents would trim the tree at night when we were asleep, decorate the living room and lock the door so that we couldn’t sneak in on the 24th and ruin the surprise. This year however we trimmed the tree together and had Disney’s A Christmas Carol running in the background which was so nice.

After a short night the 24th rolled around with more preparations for the main event, which is christmas eve proper over here in Germany and I mainly spent it with preparing the potato salad with my dad. A lot of families in Germany have potato salad and sausages on christmas eve for dinner. I believe I talked about this before, but the proper national dish of Germany is potato salad. Every family has their own recipe that has been handed down and perfected for generations. So if anybody tries to tell you about haxen and sauerkraut- nobody north or west of bavaria eats that. Sorry to burst that bubble. We do like our beer, though :D.
In the afternoon I had  a LOOONG shower and a proper pamper as I was getting ready for the night. I snuck in a cleansing and a moisturizing face mask and treated my body to some rose scented body oil. I wore the last christmas make up I posted for the night and essie sable collar on my nails. I am so in love with that polish! If it were up to me I would be perfectly content at the moment to go back and forth between OPI Russian Navy and essie sable collar.

After we all sat down for a cup of tea and chai latte, my dad lit all the candles in the living room and we all gathered our presents and sat down to sing some carols together, read the gospel and exchange presents. We had a lovely time!
Our christmas dinner consisted of smoked salmon and toast as a starter and then the potato salad and sausages. My dad and I had a lovely franconian white wine to go with it.
Then it was time for midnight mass. I am catholic so you can imagine it was quite a pompous affair but I love that. I love the lights and the organ, and that everybody is dressed up and super excited and happy. It is definitely one of my favorite services to go to. Afterwards we chatted with our friends, exchanged presents and basically stood in front of the church for over an hour keeping all the neighbors awake (oops :D). As it is tradition in my family we had a glass of bubbles before going to bed. Note to self: Don’t start watching Zero Dark Thirty while slightly tipsy and very sleepy. You WILL fall asleep, have weird dreams, wake up and wonder what the hell just happened. -.-

So now it’s the 25th, a day of rest in my family. We had brunch, I caught up on youtube videos, and now I’m sitting here wrapping up blogmas for you guys. I hate that I dropped the ball towards the end of it. I had been so good at first. Anyways, to you who are still reading, again, thank you so much for being a part of this! I really enjoyed doing this even if some posts were a lot of work but I loved every second. A special thanks to Ginger of gingerlovesmakeup! Thank you so much for liking and commenting, it means the world to me!
I’m waving blogmas good bye with a laughing and a crying eye.

I hope you all are having a great christmas with family and friends, and if you are not celebrating christmas I hope you have a lovely relaxing time! To all the people who have to work on christmas, medical workers, police, fire department, radio and tv stations, etc. thank you so much for your hard work, for keeping us safe and entertained!

Regular blogging will resume in a couple of days.

Good night and good luck everyone, see you soon!

Blogmas Days #21 & #22: I Went to a Concert and a Round Up

I went to a concert. Actually it was a little festival really. Four years ago my favorite band Subway to Sally started to put them together and they have been wonderful every year since.

On the last saturday before christmas they play at the Hessenhallen in Gießen and they bring their friends- a bunch of highly talented friends. This year they were accompannied by Lord of the Lost, Lordi and Korpiklaani and boy, did we have an amazing night! I don’t want to go too much into detail, mainly because I haven’t really processed everthing yet. In my head there is a chaos of music, pictures and colors when I think back on last night.  What I remember, though is Lord of the Lost being surprisingly great, Lordi being super cool and funny, Korpiklaani rocking our socks off, Subway making one of my dreams come true by opening with Saraband de Noir (Stille Nacht, EISheilige Nacht !!!11elf), playing an amazing set and Eric (singer of my Subways) crying on stage because it was so beautiful. After four years of going there it already feels like such a tradition to start my christmas with a bunch of metal bands. I finally made it there without getting lost, too (yay me).

Now let’s move on to the Sunday Round Up, so here’s what happened this week:

1.) My room is all ready for christmas. Wanna see?

Photo 22-12-2013 22 20 50

My favorite parts of my room are my sort of walk in book case:

Photo 22-12-2013 22 21 22And clearly my bed, my favorite place on earth!

Photo 22-12-2013 22 21 33I don’t think I can squeeze it in before christmas but I want to wash the two sheepskins I have and actually put them in my bed. I used to sleep on them all the time but after the move I kind of stopped. Time to put them to good use again, it is winter after all.

2. More getting ready for christmas
I dyed my hair again, kind of  a golden brown this time. Closer to my actual hair color. I think it will need one or two more washes to look the way it should (right now it is still a little rich and dark). I really like the Schwarzkopf Brilliance dyes. They leave my hair super soft and glossy. They are a little pricier but seem to be well worth the money.

Last but not least: My fave nailpolish combo:

OPI Russian Navy and

I know, we have a seperate blog for this, but I liked it so much I thought I’d share it here, too. I bought Russian Navy and in a set and whoever thought of putting these two together deserves an award, they work together brilliantly! Deeds on the sisterhood blog as soon as I can manage. I know I hve been neglecting the sisterhood blog this month but I really wanted to get Blogmas right and then life happened so I’m sorry about that. I might just catch you up on all of the manis I wore in the last weeks in one post. We’ll see. There is still a lot to do until christmas eve and both my parents are feeling poorly so the majority of the work is on me this time (which is completely okay, just fyi). For some reason I can’t wait to brave the storm. Nope, don’t know what’s wrong with me either.

Do you guys have all your work done for the holidays already, or do you have to get sh*t done tomorrow, too?

Either way, let’s take this week as it comes, be strong, be patient, be kind especially in the light of looming relative invasion  in a couple of days. Let’s have ourselves a good, productive week, guys!

Blogmas Days #19& #20: A New Foundation and Christmas Make Up #3

I missed another day of blogmas. Shame on me! To make up for that I thought I would combine what I wanted to yesterday with what I wanted to do today.

Let’s start with my bare face.

bare faced

bare faced

My skin is quite alright at the moment, only a little redness on my forehead adn cheeks. Next I applied my Catrice Prime and Fine primer, it is Christmas after all and I want my foundation to stay all night.

L’Oréal the foundation True Match N1 Ivory

After the Prime and Fine I buffed on my new foundation. I ordered it from as this shade is not available in Germany. It is L’Oréal the foundation True Match in N1 Ivory. I loved L’Oréal’s True Match foundations for a long time, but in Germany they start with N2, which is simply too dark for  me. With the True Match a little goes a long way: One pump is enough to cover my whole face and the foundation feels super light on my skin, almost as if I wasn’t even wearing anything, but it has medium to full coverage. It is important though to shake the foundation up before you apply it otherwise it will look cakey. It stays on well, it makes my skin look great and it has a slightly dewy finish. IT comes in a hefty glass bottle with a pump, which dispenses just enough product for me. It has SPF 17, 30 ml in a bottle and costs around 11€. I highly recommend it!

My next step was to apply a primer on my eyes-I used my trusted Maybelline Colortattoo in 65 Pink Gold- and then I filled in my brows, letting the Colortattoo set before applying my eyeshadows.

And now for the fun part: The eye make up:Photo 20-12-2013 19 56 22 I used my MAC Rockers & Reelers palette from a christmas collection from two years ago, but the colors are quite dupable. First I applied the slightly peachy gold (bottom left, Family Treasures) with a fluffy eyeshadow brush, then I patted the white shimmery shadow (top left, White Rabbit) in the tearduct area of my eye and last but not least I blended the bronzey-coppery shade (bottom right, Crown&Sceptre) underneath the eye and very lightly in the crease.

eyeshadows done

Photo 20-12-2013 20 01 27You know I can’t leave it like this without some liner. I used MAC Feline on the upper and lower waterline but I only pulled it halfway in, then I applied a slightly winged liner with my Max Factor Colour Expert Waterproof Eyeliner. After the eyeliner I applied powder to set my foundation. I always use my powder before putting on mascara so that it won’t settle on the lashes and make them grey.

My Mascara of choice at the moment is the Volume Million Lashes also by L’Oréal. It is super black, defines, volumizes and doesn’t smudge or flake off. Then I applied my blush. I chose a bronzey glowy shade and swept it on the high points of my cheeks and in a slight c-shape up to my temples.

Last but not least I opted for my beloved Rimmel by Kate Moss 107 as a lip. Matte and longlasting but super comfortable to wear, a great companion for the Christmas shenanigans I think!

This is the final look. Excuse the funny face, this actually went up on Instagram  but for some reason, the colors are quite accurate here so I decided to post it here, too 🙂

I love this look, I think this is the one I’m going to wear on Christmas Eve! Oh, you can also see here that I got my hair cut. I like this length even though it is a lot shorter than what I had for a long time. I can’t wait to see what it looks like curled!

I hope you can forgive me for the missed day!

Blogmas Day #18: What’s in my Purse?

Day 18. If you are in Germany that’s 6 days to go ’till the main event. I can’t go christmas shopping before friday and the city is already crazy, so not looking forward to that. Got my hair cut today, went home, realized that one side was shorter than the other, went back, got it fixed. In between going to the hairdressers twice I also had school. To be honest I can’t wait for this day to be over.

Now let’s move on to funner (is that even a word? probably not 😀 ) things: Today is the day I’m going to let y’all rummage through my bag! Ready?

Photo 18-12-2013 22 03 08

First things first, here is my bag. I luuuuuurve it. It was reduced from 40€ to 15€ at h&m and it is just what I had been looking for for a long time. Not too big not too small, not too dressy and not too casual. I think I’m going to be a good girl and throw out one of my run down broken bags in favor for this one. I’m on a bit of a purge at the moment.

Photo 18-12-2013 22 08 27

Now when I reach into the bag, the first thing I touch is my current travel book. I always carry a book with me -unless I’m going to church or an a quick grocery run- I even pick out my bags based on if they can house a book or not. My current travel book is Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I love it! Her style is a bit unusual but really interesting and enjoyable to read.

Photo 18-12-2013 22 09 48

Next up the small stuff: A pack of tissues, a mini deodorant (Nivea stress protect, not bad, not overwhelmingly great), my MAC mirror (which had a run in with with a nailfile in my bag and got scratched up -.-), a tin with feminine hygiene products, my wallet, my touch screen gloves, my beloved new Handsan Winter Handcream, it is super moisturizing and antibacterial, can’t go wrong with that, and a Balisto bar, you never know when your blood sugar is gonna plummet.

Photo 18-12-2013 22 12 14

And because that is not enough, I also have my little I ❤ essence pouch which holds cleansing wipes for hands and face that smell like raspberries, mmmmhhh, gum, my almost empty Handsan 5% Urea handcream, my little ‘The Woman’ mirror that Munderoon made me, alverde lipbalm, mini Elnett extra strong and a mini evianspray. It’s still in there from last summer, I think it may be time to retire it for the winter.

Of course I also have my keys and phone in there but y’all know what keys look like right? And my phone is an iPhone 5. I know it is not the best out there, but I liked my 3GS and when I upgraded a couple of months ago I realized I didn’t want any other but another iPhone.

Hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it 🙂 I’m now going to wash my face and curl up with some Gossip Girl. Read you tomorrow!

Blogmas Day #17: My Favorite Winter Perfumes

I know, I know, it’s tuesday which normally means it’s make up time, BUT due to work reasons I will have to move stuff around and make up time is happening most likely on friday and the post I had planned for tomorrow is happening today.

J.Lo Glow, Miss Sixty Rock Chic, Dita von Teese, Kylie Pink Sparkle

J.Lo Glow, Miss Sixty Rock Muse, Dita von Teese, Kylie Pink Sparkle

If you have been following this blog for a little while you might be ‘Dear God, not again! Please woman, you have been banging on about these for ages.’ Yes, I have. I’m sorry. But I just love them so much! Either way, when wintertime rolls around and it gets cold outside I turn to the warmer scents and I always seem to end up with these.

J.Lo’s Glow is my oldest perfume out of the four mentioned here. It is intense and warm and quite an ‘in your face’ scent. Not everybody’s cup of tea I know, I too needed some time to come around to it but now I love it.

Top: grapefruit, neroli, orange blossom
Heart: tuberose, jasmine, rose
Base: sandal wood, musk, vanilla, amber, orris root

Another favorite of mine over years and years has been Miss Sixty Rock Muse. I bought this when I first moved out, so it really smells like independence to me.

Top: grapefruit, bergamot, red currant, prickle gooseberry, gourmand plum
Heart: jasmine, tea, rose, heliotrope
Base: patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, musk, Basmati rice

This lovely black bottle is Dita von Teese’s original perfume. Heavy and very classic, it always reminds me of a very classy, cool but very elegantly sexy lady. When I think of traditional, classic perfume this is the kind of scent I picture in my head. (I can’t wait to get my pawsies on her other offerings Erotique and Rouge. I smelled them already and they were to die for.)

Top: bergamot, peony, Bourbon pepper
Heart: Bulgarian rose, Tahitian tiare flower, jasmine
Base: incense, patchouli, musk, guaiac wood, sandalwood

And last but not least Pink Sparkle by Kylie Minogue. I fell for this fast and hard and I sprayed it everywhere including my bedding. I just wanted to wrap myself up in this scent. I still put this on whenever I feel the need for something warm and cozy.

Top: pink grapefruit, lilly of the valley
Heart: white peach, champagne, gardenia, jasmine
Base: musk, vetiver, vanilla

Actually when you look at the scent descriptions it is crazy how many notes they have in common. I didn’t even realize that until I typed it up. Wow.

If my taste in scents looks horribly unsofisticated, I’m sorry! It seems all of my more expensive, prestigious scents are more for spring (like my DKNY Pure Drop of Rose which I can’t stop wearing at the moment but mainly because it’s new [and oh so wonderful])

Do you have a scent that you only wear in winter, or is it the same for you year round?

Blogmas Day #16: [Media Update] My Favorite Christmas Movies

Good evening, guys! How was your day? Mine was okay. My bosses really stop my job from being a total suckfest.

Now, after we have been dealing with christmas music and tv, let’s focus on the big screen. Germany doesn’t really have a tradition of christmas movies, it’s only been in the last couple of years that networks and cinemas actually make the effort to show movies that have something to do with christmas. Before, we had the same cutesy period romances airing (I’m looking at you, Sissi) and a couple of classics.

Two years ago or so my favorite network did something amazing: They aired ‘The Holiday’ and ‘Love Actually’ back to back on christmas day. The genius who came up with this should get a medal or something! Either way, from this moment on those two movies were burnt into my heart. And last year I found this thing of awesomeness on

Photo 16-12-2013 21 59 12

Ooooh yes! ‘The Holiday’ and ‘Love Actually’ in one box *__*
Like last year I will save those two for christmas day and I will watch them snuggled up after my long hot bath, with a cup peppermint hot chocolate or marzipan cappuccino and just let the world be the world.

‘The Holiday’ is about two women switching their homes to break away from their lives.

‘Love Actually’ explores love in all its different facettes.

Blogmas Day #15: An Apology and a Round Up

First off, guys I have to apologize. I didn’t make it yesterday. I was on the road meeting one of my besties and I didn’t return until 10 at night. I was simply too frazzled to write a proper post.

And on we go with the apologies. This week was boring to say the least. All I did was run around, work and sort things for school and christmas so not much fascinating to report. I only have two or three things, I hope that’s okay! Tomorrow, however, I have another media update for you AND some Catrice previews, but let’s get it on with the round up:

Photo 15-12-2013 23 49 50

1. Empties
I finished a couple of products this week. I love finishing stuff, it has something very satisfying. I finished my old moisturizing shampoo from the Wella ProSeries line (I believe those were recently re-named Vidal Sassoon). I liked the shampoo but I can already tell that my EverPure shampoo is the better moisturizer. I’m bloody proud of myself that I finished a 500ml bottle. Only took me 8 months 😀
After years and years of using up mililiter after mililiter my ancient Elvital Re-Nutrition Night Elixir went. It was by no means a bad product but I really didn’t like the scent, and it lingered in my hair and it didn’t pack as much moisture as I had hoped. I’m glad to see it go. Also I used up another Balea Soft Oil Balm. This one is a definite re-purchase after I used up my alverde body butters. This must be my third bottle and it is simple the most moisturizing, glow inducing, healing product for my poor dry skin. On top of all this I am only 1 or two uses shy of finishing up my Bioderma. I am really sad to see it go but it also gives me the opportunity to play with the drugstore dupes that have recently popped up.

2.Cleaning out my Closet
Well, more like my vanity and beauty product shelves. I was hit by a bit of a cleaning spree today and I threw out a lot of products that I saved but knew I would never use. I found products that are almost empty and got pushed to the back in favor of newer, maybe slightly better products. This is really a habit I need to kick (new year’s resolution?). I made a decision to use them up before buying new stuff. I sorted through my Yankee Candle tart collection and almost had a stroke upon the realization that I have 19 different scents. Again. MUST.USE.UP.SOME.BEFORE.BUYING.NEW.ONES!!!! I still have to go through my clothes and make up (yes, make up. That’s the one thing I am effing scared of), but I might postpone this until after christmas, I simply don’t have the time right now. Seriously I am so on a buying ban in some aspects of my consumerism right now!

3.Speaking of Shopping
When I was out and about with Munderoon yesterday, I picked up two of the movies I had been waiting to pick up for a long time: Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty.
Aside from being a good film, Skyfall is always tied with the memory of going to this film with my dad and sister and how we all had a great happy afternoon together! I love going to the movies with my dad, but we don’t do it nearly enough.
Zero Dark Thirty was on my radar ever since I watched the Oscars and when I realized Kyle Chandler was in this movie it sealed the deal for me. I haven’t seen either yet, but I can’t wait!

I know it’s a little meagre this week but proper blogging will resume tomorrow. Let’s kiss this week good bye and start into a busy and productive new one!
