The Haul of Shame

That went well. I have no excuse. And I feel bad but also happy at the same time.

Photo 18-07-2014 20 17 10

So, Rossmann had 30% off of lipsticks/glosses and nailpolishes, I had a shit week and this is where the tragedy begins. My first slip up was a polish (Catrice Purple Reign) and the incredible Catrice Ultimate Shine Gel Color in License to Pink. It is the deep pink in the picture (I seem to have a bit of a pink moment right now, no clue where that comes from).

I have fallen head over heels for License to Pink. The formula is amazing. It reminds me a bit of my beloved Astor Lipbutters but with a little less slip. The lipstick is super pigmented, moisturizing  and leaves a slight stain aka. it wears off incredibly even and nice. This stuff has a way of making my lips look super plush and smooth. It makes the lips shine but it is more of a creamy shine than a glossy shine, just the way I like it.

The rest of what you can see in the picture above is the damage I did today. (Epicfail -.-).

The other lipstick is Catrice Ultimate Shine in Yes, We Can-dy. It is a warm pink with golden shimmer in it. I am currently gravitating away from beige ‘concealer’ nudes to soft pinks and I already had a look at it during my first haul but left it behind, only to obsess over it for the rest of the week. Now it came home with me and I keep on staring at it . Lovely, I tell you!

The next lip product is the Catrice Beautifying Lip Smoother in 030 Cake Pop. This is very obviously supposed to be a dupe for the Clarins Instant Smooth Lip Perfector (which is still on my wishlist, I can’t help myself). I picked up the Lip Smoother with the ambition to actually use this up and make an effort of having SOMETHING on my lips. As much as I love my lip products (lip product addict tag?) I tend to rush out of the door with eyes and cheeks done but no lip stuff. I’ve been wearing the lip smoother for the past couple of hours and it tastes sweet and leaves my lips super soft. I don’t really have issues with chapped lips anymore since I started to drink enough throughout the day, but it is still nice to have something conditioning on I find.

The nailpolish is a neon pink by Astor Fashion Studio and the new Neo Tribal collection. I really like the Astor polishes but they tend to be a little overlooked, even though the provide great quality for a very reasonable price.

And last but not least Catrice Velvet Matt eyeshadow in Al Burgundy. I covetted this color ever since I saw it in the press release and heard the rave reviews from the Catrice event. The color is a dark plummy burgundy color (it reminds me a bit of Sketch by MAC [which is also on my wishlist -.-]) and the texture is buttery soft. However, I heard from a lot of people that their Al Burgundy shattered easily and I heaved a sigh of relieve when I got mine home in one piece. Not one for travelling I’d say.

What to take away from this other than a couple of pretty beauty products? That I use a crappy week as an excuse to buy stuff. This has to stop. I have to find other ways to make myself feel better. What do you do to make yourselves feel better that has nothing to do with buying stuff? I’d love to hear about your habits!

Mini Rossmann Haul

It was time for me to pick up some necessities from Rossmann so I thought I would post you a quick haul.

Photo 20-06-2014 22 20 50

The first product I picked up is the Manhattan gel eyeliner in black. My Maybelline black gel liner died and apperantly Manhattan is the only drugstore brand that still does a gel liner that doesn’t cost almost 10€ -.- Either way I heard good things about this one, I am currentlyout of black liquid or gel liners that I like, so I went for this one. We’ll see how it works. (I may use it tomorrow because I want to do a black red and gold liner for tomorrow’s Germany game).

Next I bought the Rival de Loop Clean and Care Make Up Remover Balm. I am almost out of my Bebe young care Cleansing Lotion and wanted to try something else. This balm was a really hyped up product a couple of years ago here in Germany, and at 1.19€ it really doesn’t break the bank. It is clean of silicones, color, perfume and parabens and is supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin. The second ingredient on the list is glycerin so it should be really moisturizing as well. I can’t wait to try this.

And last but not least (MINI haul. Told ya.) I repurchased a face cream. Hell must be freezing over somewhere. But yeah, it happened. I repurchased my Diadermine Lift +SPF. This stuff has done wonders for my skin. It is so much cleaner and healthier ever since I started using this about 6 months ago. I don’t know about the anti ageing and lifting effects as I mainly buy it for the SPF of 30 that it has. It claimes to protect from UVA, UVB and infrared rays. The box says it is meant for oily, dry and normal skin for people of 25+ years. I have combination oily skin that falls into the extremes (dry cheeks, super oily nose) and it works for me. It has a buttery slightly thick consistency but it melts into the skin and sinks in quickly and hydrates deeply without overloading the skin with oils etc. Also worth a note is that I don’t sweat under this moisturizer. The cream has an ECARF seal (European Center for Allergy Research Foundation) and therefore is supposed to be usable for people with highly allergic skin or generally sensitive skin, too. I had to learn the hard way that my skin is sensitive (again and again and again. [cystic acne on my forhead after using that Nivea Protect and Bronze face spf -.-]) but this one here doesn’t irritate or aggravate my skin at all. It helps it to be the best it has ever been. Obviously, I can’t speak for highly allergic skin and I think generally we should be careful with what we are putting on our skin, no skin reacts the same.
Another big plus: At about 5€ it is a little gem in a pauper’s costume. I will never understand why people waste hundreds of Euros on high end skin care when there perfectly good stuff to be found on the high street.

Like I said, mini haul, but I am genuinely excited for all the products I bought. Did you buy anything fun and/or exciting recently? Any skincare tips for combination oily skin? Just pop them in the comments below!

Haul and First Impressions: MAC Face and Body and more…

Photo 21-05-2014 13 41 10I hinted at it in my recent Sunday Round Ups but yeah, I have put two hellish months behind me and it seems I did well. Off I went to treat myself. Initially I didn’t want to splurge but that 10% off- Douglas Card offer vaulted me over the edge (that and the packaging for the Alluring Aquatics by MAC, I mean, O. M. G. … !!!)

I actually went in to get matched for the MAC Face and Body foundation. Recently my skin has been really great and I was craving a lightweight sheer foundation to get me over the summer and I knew MAC F&B would deliver and on top I knew from reviews that it also lasts very well on the skin. If that doesn’t scream summer I don’t know what does!
I got matched to C1, which is the lightest of the bunch. The Maccine tried N2 and N1 on me, but N2 was too dark and N1 came out too dark and yellow as well (weirdly enough). C1 pretty much hit the nail on the head, though. Generally I have to say I had a great experience at our MAC counter today, she even took me outside so I could look at my face in daylight and she was very nice and helpful.

And then Alluring Aquatic happened. I am a little upset that I didn’t get a lipstick anymore because they were all sold out already but I just HAD to get one thing from the collection because the packaging is the most stunning I have ever seen. Ever. I might actually go back tomorrow and pick one of the nailpolishes up as well (naughty). I was torn between one of the Extra Dimension blushes and one of the Extra Dimension bronzers and after my lovely Maccine swatched both on me I fell for the bronzer. Hard. So in the end and enabled by the 10% off I took it home with me.

Look at the packaging with the droplets on it. Look. At. It. Oooooh!

And here’s to the first impressions:

Photo 21-05-2014 13 47 30

Naked Face

In this picture you can see my bare skin. It is very hot over here today and I am very hormonal, so please do excuse the spots and the redness. I primed my skin by applying the Rival de Loop Hydro Moisturizing Gel, which I also hauled today. I used it underneath my Diadermine day cream because my skin was a bit sore after being cleansed three times in less than 6 hours (morning cleanse, cleansing wipe at MAC and taking the dirt of the city off before applying the new foundation -.-). The gel contains panthenol and duo-hyaluron and it soothed my skin immediately. It is very lightweight and sank in very quickly but it still felt really moisturizing. It also seemed to let my skin absorb my moisturizer better and quicker, I really enjoy it so far.
I also tried the soothing eye cream from the same range because I ran out of my Chanel Hydra Beauty eye gel- sample and I actually think I like the RdL eye cream better. It is even more moisturizing and a little creamier then the Chanel gel (it’s still a gel/cream formula just like the Chanel, though).

Just Face and Body

You can actually see how the foundation calmed down the redness and evened out my skintone already. I buffed the foundation on with a flat top synthetic kabuki brush. F&B is waterbased, which means it is very liquidy when it comes out of the bottle, but it sets very quickly. It even feels a little bit sticky for a second or two, but really for just that long. On its own the foundation has a very glowy finish without being oily or moving around a lot and it is pretty much undetectable on the skin. It melted into my skin and set and it hasn’t budged until now, despite the hot sultry weather we have today. Granted at this point I only had it on for about 5 hours but I also ran around in the heat already and got sweaty and everything is still in place.

Face and Body and concealer

Face and Body and concealer

I used the Rimmel Match Perfection concealer under my eyes and around my nose and the Catrice Camouflage on any spots (both in 010 Ivory). The concealers melted very nicely into the foundation. Another major point pro Face and Body: I suffer from enlarged pores mainly on my nose (ick-factor right there, sorry) and the F&B blurrs over the pores without sitting in them or otherwise highlighting them. That was my major concern, that it wouldn’t cover my pores well enough but it did.

F&B, concealer, powder

F&B, concealer, powder

I lightly powdered with my essence all about matt powder and a duofiber stipling brush. It didn’t stay matte for long, BUT I also didn’t get overly oily. The foundation just went back to being glowy and skin-like.

Photo 21-05-2014 14 08 42

And here is the final look with MAC Alluring Aquatic Extra Dimension Bronzer Aphrodite’s Shell on my cheeks, Max Factor Masterpiece Glide On Liner in black/brown in a half-line and L’Oréal Miss Manga in black on my lashes. I filled in my brows with the Catrice Brow Set.

Aphrodite’s Shell only got a C on Temptalia but mainly because it is such a sheer veil and won’t show up on medium to darker complexions, but on me as the extremely fair dainty doll that I am this bronzer is borderline perfect. It gives me a wash of sunkissed color, melts into my skin and gives almost like a soft focus effect. It doesn’t show up very well on pictures, though. In reality I have this very soft bronzey glow on my cheeks, but my camera won’t cooperate. It looks like I have some splotch of brown color on my cheek, oh well….

To sum this up I am in love with all of my purchases today! It seems I had the Midas touch with all of the things I bought. Keep in mind that this is a first impression not a proper review and a bit of a rave at that. I will keep on wearing everything and see what happens. So far no MAC foundation has broken me out and I sincerely hope it stays that way, same goes for the skin care.
If you are looking for a review of that green polish check back on sisterhoodofthetravellingnailpolish.wordpress.com in the next couple of days, I will get one up there soon.

Do you have any experience with MAC F&B or MAC in general? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Read y’all on Sunday, have a good one 🙂

Out with the Old, In with the New

I had a couple of empties last week. I had planned to put this into the Sunday Round Up but it got lost in my football haze. For that neglect alone they deserve their own post.

Empties

Empties, well, ish

I finished my Hydra Active 3 skin perfecting rich cleansing milk. It is very creamy, not drying at all, quite oily but rinses off acompletely and gets rid of everything. It was a nice product but I switched back to my bebe young care cleansing milk still. It’s a little less oily but gets rid of everything as well.

Next up another little jar of alverde body butter. I liked it, it’s moisturizing, sinks in quickly and the smell is also nice. I currently have a new jar in use.

My Max Factor False Lash Effect is not altogether empty but very close and simply resigned its post. It just wouldn’t hold the curl anymore and had turned gloopy, out it went, or it will once I’m done writing this post.

As you can see the Astor powder is still full, but it makes me super yellow when I wear it. It was only 1.72€ and an impulse buy, but my heart still bleeds a little bit to chuck out a fully functional product. I don’t know anyone around me who this powder would suit, regrettably. The powder in itself wasn’t bad at all.

Photo 21-01-2014 22 11 46

To replace the Astor powder I picked up the essence all about matt! pressed powder and I am really impressed. It fixes my make up and it is the first powder to control my oils at all. My nose got a little oily after about 3 hours (which is great, because normally the ‘glow’ starts roughly half an hour upon application)  but the rest of my face stayed matte. As I was so happy with it I snatched up the loose all about matt! powder today. The loose powder will be discontinued and sold for .95€

Next stop Manhattan. They had 20% off across the range and I picked up an oldie but goody with the Ultimate Long& Curl mascara. I remember I used to love this when I was like 14. I tried it today and it’s still great. Lengthens, holds a curl, nice and black, lovely!
Aaand because I wanted to try another waterproof option I also got the X-treme Last and so far I like this one, too. The finish is a little natural in one coat but it looks like it’s going to be buildable.

Would you like a review on any of those once I have built my opinion?

Popping the Cherry: My First Kosmetik Kosmo Wunderbox

After solemnly vowing to never fall into the beauty box trap, I did fall (at least a little bit) on New Year’s Day. I ordered one of the Kosmetik Kosmo Wunderboxes. Kosmetik Kosmo is a German indie brand by German youTuber Koko von Kosmo.

Photo 03-01-2014 16 43 44

Some time ago she started to create her own beauty boxes, filled with goodies from her shop with roughly a 25€ value but a 12.49€ price tag. She has a couple of permanent ones that you can order at all times but she also packs a new limited one every month and they sell like crazy. With the permanent ones you can check on the internet by now what is in them but the limited ones you have to buy blind, your decision only based on a trailer and the name of the box, because usually by the time the Unboxing posts and videos go online the box has sold out.

I was never intrigued enough to buy one until 3 days ago. The trailer strongly suggested that the box would have something to do with brushes. One of Koko’s trademark products are her brushes. My ears pricked up. I have some of her eyeshadows, I once ordered some Sigmar brushes from her shop, but I don’t have any of her own brand. Long story short I caved. The box arrived today.

So here is what was in it:

TADAAAA

TADAAAA

And here they are, the four beautiful brushes that were housed in the box:

The big fluffy one is Kontur Krista, a tapered synthetic duo fibre brush, meant to contour the face. I can’t wait to use this one. I’ve been wanting to buy a brush like this for a long time.

Next in the picture is Lidschatten Lisbeth, a slightly angled, fluffy eyeshadow brush, followed by Präzisions Pia, a slim pencil brush and Eyeliner Elke an angled liner brush.

Pia was the only brush of which I already had two dupes of but then again, you can never have enough pencil brushes, right? It is also the only one that I have already used when I did my make up to go to the library earlier (ain’t nothing wrong about bringing some glamour to the the library, no?).

In total the value of this particular box was 29.06€. I paid 12.49€ + 3.95€ shipping. I paid via paypal and they were super fast: I ordered on the first, which is a nationwide holiday over here, the parcel was mailed yesterday and arrived today in the afternoon (insert Boris Johnson ‘VERY NICE’ here).

I can’t wait to properly test drive the brushes, I have heard so much good stuff about them.

(If you are wondering why I am completely ignoring the fact that a new year has arrived, I am not. Blogposts with thoughts about the old and the new year and beauty best of’s are going online over the week end [if you are at all interested])

Blogmas Day #11: A Big Bun and an Iddy Biddy Haul

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen!

How was your day? Lovely, I hope, mine was a bit meh, but that’s okay 🙂

I thought today we  could do something a little more chatty and relaxed. First off I am going to show you the result of me playing around with my big bun cushion that I hauled 3 weeks ago (time really does fly, doesn’t it?) at Primark and then I kinda did some shopping. Oops! 😀

The bun with a bun cushion is super simple. Just tie a ponytail at the height that you want it, put the bun cushion over the ponytail, drape your hair over it, tie it down with another hairband or hairpins and tuck the ends under and away. My hair is so long by now that I sometimes braid or twist the ends together and wrap them around the base of the bun. I like the results they I got a lot. Next time I want to really ‘attach’ the bun to my head so that there is no visible gap anymore, but I don’t quite know how yet. Work in progress 😀

Photo 11-12-2013 20 58 06

Like I said, I was a little naughty and did some shopping. Initially I went to look for christmas presents for my girls, oh well… I did find something for my dad though 🙂  I know at least some of the stuff that I want to get, my problem now is to find what I have in mind. -.-

Let’s get to the haul, shall we?

I had a bit of a rough week, so I thought I’d buy something to treat my poor dehydrated, scratched up, bruised skin and went for the alverde Relax Oil Wildrose and Sea Buckthorn. It is 2.95€ for 100ml and a blend of essential oils with a lovely rose scent. I used it on my hands and it is very smoothing and hydrating. The scent is quite strong at first and then slowly fades, but it is not overpowering to my nose. I can’t wait to use this after my shower.

Another skin care bit is the alverde limited edition body butter collection. I snapped up the very last one, after I have been on the hunt for this ever since I heard it would come out. I love the alverde body butters! Snowhoney gifted me  one for my birthday and it one my heart over right away. I have already repurchased it and am on my second jar now. The alverde body butters are very hydrating and they sink in very quickly! They may not be as hydrating as my balea Soft Oil Balm, but they come close.
The limited edition set has three 50ml jars with special christmas scents: cranberry chocolate, vanilla cinnamon and baked apple; very sweet and creamy. The set was 2.95€.

Technically, this belongs on the Sisterhood-blog but I fell for essie’s sable collar when I saw it sitting on it’s display. In the bottle it is a maroon glow-from-within shimmer with a grey cast, I can’t wait to paint my nails with this and it definitely will be a NotD on the Sisterhood-blog soon. (7.95€ for 13.5ml)

My last stop was the Yankee Candle corner at our Karstadt department store. I’ve been stumbling across more scents on other blogs and the Yankee Candle website and the descriptions sounded so nice that I just had to take a look at them. And of course I couldn’t leave without buying some -.- This time I went for Red Apple Wreath and Christmas Memories. Both are very cinnamon-y and spicy. Red Apple Wreath is a little sweeter and fruitier because of the apples obviously, Christmas Memories smells a little more like gingerbread (and is currently filling my room, even though it is still wrapped in plastic). I wish they also had the Christmas Eve tarts but they were out. Other scents that I need to get tarts of are November Rain and Salted Caramel but they never seem to have them. I also picked up a back up Witches’ Brew, they were on sale and I really really loved the scent.
Oh by the way, I found out today that one of my all-time faves Cinnamon Stick is supposed to smell like cinnamon and cloves, which is exactly what Matthew de Clairmont of A Discovery of Witches is supposed to smell like. Doesn’t get much better than that. 🙂

Mini Haul: essence Dark Romance Red Romance Lipstick, Mystery Glam Quad +Swatches

People who know me a little bit and you may have guessed it from my blog title, I am quite partial to the darker side of things. And then essence came around the corner with a (clicheed) goth but goth no less collection aaand I caved and picked up two nailpolishes (reviews and NotDs of those will be up on the sisterhood blog soon!), a lipstick and one of the quads.

essence Lipstick 01 Red Romance

essence Lipstick 01 Red Romance

I always wanted to try one of the new black packaged long lasting, nicely pigemented essence lipstick and there they were two of them in the Dark Romance collection and of course I chose the darker one of the two going by the name of Red Romance. I haven’t worn it yet but it swatched really nicely. It is a nice wine color the way I like them. It has a sheen to it and glides easily on the skin. The scent is quite a classic lipstick scent but not overpowering or overly strong. The lipstick was 1.95€ for 3.8g/.13 oz.

essence Dark Romance 01 Mystery Glam

essence Dark Romance 01 Mystery Glam

The Mystery Glam quad consists of a sheer white golden shimmer, this should be a good highlight color it my work all over the lid too depending on what you are looking for. Then there is a dark shimmery blue-ish green. Colors like this tend to blend into a muddy black-ish cast, losing all of its green shimmer but we will see how it performs on the eye. Next is satin-finished antique gold which seemed to be quite pigmented and last but not least there is a dark blood red with a matte finish this one seemed to be  a little sheerer than the others but buildable (in the swatch above I dipped in my finger three times and layerd the color up). The Quad was 2.95€ for 5g/.17 oz. I have quite high hopes for this quad, the texture was really fine and soft.
Random fact: One of my favorite and most relied upon eyeshadow quad is the essence Over the Taupe quad from the standard range. It is the one I always reach for when I have to look polished and put together but not over the top.

I am out sick today so the promised face of the day with the new products will have to wait until tomorrow but I will include it in the Sunday Round Up.
