[Preview] Catrice Treasure Trove for Mid November 2015

I’m gonna do something today that I haven’t done in a while and that is to bring you the press release for the  upcoming Winter/Christmas limited edition of Catrice.

What can I say, I saw the packaging and may have hyperventillated a little. White and gold and stars. I mean STARS! The products seem to tick all of my boxes as well. Of course I don’t know anything yet about the quality, but Catrice has a good track record when it comes to quality. I would still suggest to not buy blindly and wait for some reviews, plus Catrice has recently been really good at providing testers with the LE trays. But enough with the yapping let’ s look at some pictures:

Lipsticks:

C01Jewel Daze

C02Caviar And Champagne

C03Treasured Twinkles

C03 Treasured Twinkles

Above you can see the three lipsticks that come with the collection. The cheat sheet that Catrice provided us with speaks of ‘intensive color’, ‘light texture’ and ‘subtle shine’. From that I would assume that they fall in the ball park of the usually black packaged Pure Color lipsticks which are usually creamy and pigmented with a buttery  sheen. The colors ARE very basic with nude, coral and red BUT I’m not sure if I can contain myself because of the packaging. I MIGHT go for the red (not that I already have enough of those).

Catrice Treasure Trove Precious Lip Colour

And this is the reason why I won’t be able to contain myself. If you click on the picture you can see the bigger version and you will see stars in the best way possible. Of course taste is a very personal but I think in terms of a drugstore Christmas LE Catrice are really knocking it out of the ball park packaging-wise.

Nailpolishes:

C04Treasured Twinkles

Nailpolishes are usually one of Catrice’s strength and after they got their brushes in check again, it should be fine. I do like the golden caps because I personally find them easier to wield, they do however make storage a lot harder. The colors fit with the collection and according to the cheat sheet they all have a pearl, no creams.

Eyeliner:

C01Golden Grace

C01 Golden Grace

The eyeliner is another product that is going to lead me into temptation because it is golden. I love my colored liquid and gel liners and if this liner yields opaque color I’m gonna want it.

Highlighter:

C01Golden Grace

C01 Golden Grace

The cool tone of this gold should make it work for a lot of skin tones. I personally prefer sheen over sparkle so let’s hope there is none of that in there. And of course the embossed stars and the clear acrylic packaging definitely appeals to me.

Blush:

C01Caviar And Champagne

C01 Caviar And Champagne

The cheat sheet calls this blush a combination of ‘warm rosewood with champagne highlights’. I would say the color is relatively unique in the drugstore because it is quite red. The blush seems to be the same size as the highlighter so you’ll get quite a nice amount of product.

Eyeshadow Palette:

C01Blaze Of Glory

C01 Blaze Of Glory

And last but not least the actual treasure trove of the collection: A neutral eyeshadow palette. Not overly cheap at 7,99€ but if the palette has a decent size (and it looks like the shadows are about the size of MAC shadows) it comes down to 1€ per shadow. The cheat sheet says, the palette contains matte as well as shimmery shades and the shadows are supposed to be silky-smooth and highly pigmented. Catrice shadows can be hit and miss, let’s hope these are a hit.

C01Blaze Of Glory

C01 Blaze Of Glory

Here is the lid of the case and yes, it makes my fingers itch and my wallett weep but MAN the design! Also it looks like a plastic case (Catrice uses cardboard boxes a lot in LEs but apperantly not this time) and the cheat sheet mentions an integrated mirror. Sounds pretty good to me and I will definitely look at the palette.

Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Are the colors too basic for you and the packaging too kitschy or are you about as excited about the limited edition as I am?

Sneak Peek: Catrice Luxury Lacquers for March 2014

I’ve been a bad beauty blogger, I didn’t share all of the press releases with you that I got. Some of them I will share with you over the next two weeks or so, BUT I am also debating right now whether I should just show you the products I think are worth showing, because these PR posts tend to get really long. Let me know if you are okay with me limiting them or if you want to see the whole deal!

For now, let’s start with the press release that I have been wanting to show you ever since I got it:

Catrice is putting out a collection that I have been waiting for. Every year they release a collection that is made up completely of nailpolishes and they usually put a lot of effort into these collections and come up with fabulous colors, textures and finishes and this time I feel they have outdone themselves yet again! The collection will be up from the beginning of March 2014.

My 2 cents:
I have mentioned before I am excited for these especially the holos, Plumbeach from the Sand’sation ones and C(h)ome, Leon! and Chromio & Julia are tugging on my heartstrings. I can’t wait to see them in person! The quality should be good on these usually there is no big quality difference between collection and standard polishes at Catrice.

Do you guys like any of these? Will you rush out and buy one?

Sneak Peek: Catrice It Pieces/Lala Berlin loves Catrice and Lash Flash for mid January ’14

Today I have something really exciting to share with you: A sneak peek at the products that will join the permanent range of Catrice in spring 2014! The products of these ‘sort of’ limited editions will hit the shelves mid january to february 2014.

Let’s jump right in!

My 2 cents:
I was really excited when I saw that this was already a sneaky peek at the new Catrice range. I love the idea of the crushed crystals polishes, I think they will be a lot like the p2 Sand Styles which I adore, really sparkly but textured. I’m really looking forward to those! The Made to Stay Lip Polishes sound like a dupe for the Rimmel Apocalips/Manhattan Lip Lacquers. The press release says: color of a lipstick, power of a stain and shine like a gloss. Another one that I am really looking forward to. The shimmering bronzer looks gorgeous, too. I can’t wait to see if the sheen really is as fine and buttery as it looks in the pictures. The eyeshadow quad, lipsticks and blush are usually great at Catrice. I am quite certain though that Think Pink and Kiss Kiss Hibiscus were there before or are still there.
So yeah, I’m excited 🙂

My 2 cents:
I am a bit ambivalent about this, because fake lashes stand and fall with the quality. I never had Catrice lashes before, frankly I can’t remember if they ever had proper lashes in a limited edition before. The idea to add fake lashes to the drugstore is good. Now, if these lashes are really worth their money, it’s gonna be great. All the lashes marked with LE are just that limited edition, the single lashes and the Couture Classical Volume Lashes are permanent.
What goes for the lashes goes for the glue. If it is good, we’re gold. It is a black glue, so you better not get it anywhere.
And last but not least the Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara in Black and Ultra Black. Can you say Max Factor False Lash Effect/ Covergirl Lashblast? We’ll see if it is as good as those. If it is AND it removes better, yeah, you guessed it, we’d be gold!

I can’t wait to see these two LEs and I can’t wait to see all of the new stuff for the range. Once again Catrice seems to be on to some great stuff!

What do you think? Yay? Nay? Meh?

Review: Catrice All Matt Plus 010 Light Beige

Full Face of Make Up Including Brows, Eyes, Cheeks

As I had mentioned in my last Sunday Round Up I have purchased the Catrice All Matt Plus Foundation in the shade 010 Light Beige. This particular shade was celebrated in the German blogging and vlogging community as the lightest shade available in the German drugstore. I had been curious for a while but it took the 30% off offer to convince me to buy it.

The foundation claims to be mattifying, longlasting, oil free, hydrating with lightreflecting pigments for a satin-matt finish.

Creamy Consistency

Creamy Consistency

The consistency of the foundation is creamy and it goes on very moist, a little bit like a water-based tinted moisturizer, that is how it feels on the skin. It gives a medium, buildable coverage that has a luminous matte finish.
My skin is combination oily/dry with a very oily t-zone and dry cheeks, so everything that is satin, dewy or glowy tends to freak me out, my t-zone is very ‘glowy’ all by itself, thank you very much! This luminous matte finish does look really nice on my skin though, just like I had a very-good-skin-day.

As for the mattifying part: The foundation doesn’t stop me from getting oily anymore than any other foundation I have tried so far, it is very moisturizing which is nice for the coming winter and I have noticed that my blush and eyebrows last considerably longer when I wear this foundation. After 8 hours they look exactly like they did just after application in the morning. Impressive.

The foundation sets maybe a smidgen too dark and yellow for me, but not to the point where I have dark lines or that it looks like I had a weird tanning accident. Please keep in mind that in MAC terms I am a NW 10 with neutral undertones, so if this foundation is just a wee bit too dark for me it may work for most other pale beauties out there.

Photo 13-11-2013 21 42 53

All in all, I like the foundation and Iwill wear it whenever I feel like a slightly less heavy skin option (both my MAC foundations can be quite heavy). If you like the finish and the coverage and your skin leans a little bit on the yellow side of things this may be for you. Skintype-wise I’d say slightly dry to normal to combo-oily skins will get on with the foundation fine. It is 6.45€ for 30ml/1.01fl.oz. and comes in a hefty glassbottle with a pump.
My 2 cents? Finally a decent drugstore option for us dainty dolls in Germany!

The Fall Edit: Cranberries at the Club

Photo 04.09.13 19 44 06

New Haircolor

For me fall is always a time to start new. To reorganize my life and my room and give everything a good once-over. Step 1 was coloring my hair this year. I had gone a warmer shade of brown before but after this had grown out considerably I decided to make the change a little more extreme and went red, and I have to say I really like it. Plus it’s fall for chrissakes, the red is called for. Enough with me envying other red-heads while the October sun set their mane ablaze, now mine will be ablaze, too.

Also, my messy inverted side braid looks considerably cooler and a lot more artsy in red, no?

Photo 13.09.13 17 54 42

Messy inverted side braid (what a mouthfull!)

What fall also brings with it, are my favorite eyeshadow shades. Yes, I can wear them all year round, but in fall my oranges, reds, greens and browns seem to fit particularly well.

This is the first installment of what will be a series both on this but also on my nailblog (which I share with my bestest of besties). Here you will find my favorite (eye-)make ups for fall, over there my nail color suggestions.

So let’s dive right in:

Cranberries at the Club

Cranberries at the Club

For the eye make up above I primed my eyes with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pink Gold, pressed MAC’s Club on with a dense synthetic brush and blended the whole shebang by softly blending MAC’s Cranberry through the crease. I added a flicked half-line with a black liquid liner, tightlined and lined the waterline with MAC’s Feline, blended Club through the lower lash line and added a coat of Max Factor’s False Lash Effect Waterproof. On my lips I wear a blend of MAC’s Myth and Catrice’s Hey Nude. I can’t help it I’m still all over the strong-eyes-nude-lips thing. For some reason I am not brave enough for the strong-eyes-strong-lips trend.

Confessions of a Mascara Addict: 10 Reviews and 2 First Impressions

20130823-214831.jpg

My eyes au naturel

Hello and welcome to my blog at the new address! As I started a nailblog with my two best friends here on wordpress just recently (you can find us under sisterhoodofthetravellingnailpolish.wordpress.com if you are interested shameless selfpromotion) it seemed to make sense to pull my old blog from blogger and move it to wordpress to have my two playgrounds under one roof. Plus, if I see my so sadly neglected baby constantly while checking on the stats of my new baby maybe I can finally manage to update more regularly, fingers crossed.

As you read from the title this post is about mascaras. Along with my nailpolish problem I seem to have a mascara problem as well. I have ten. 1 0. For two eyes. And then essence had a promotion for their new get big lashes triple black in which you received either the original get big lashes or the waterproof version along with the triple black for free. Obviously I fell head first into this trap. I included the two new mascaras as first impressions at the end of this post.

Please excuse my bare and somewhat problematic skin, I thought I would put the mascara at the center of attention and leave everything else bare.  The mascaras are in no particular order, some I love, some I hate and some are so-so. You will notice that my eyes are various shades of red, this is due to the application and removal of twelve different mascaras, even though my eyes didn’t bother me as much as I thought they would. This I owe to my lovely cleanser which I will tell you about further down this post. BEWARE! This is a(nother) long one, grab a cup of tea, a snack and settle in! I hope you’ll enjoy.

20130823-214844.jpg

Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof (Covergirl Lashblast Waterproof)

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this one. The result the Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof (this is the Euro sister of Covergirl’s Lashblast Waterproof) gives is beautiful. My lashes are flared out, lengthened, separated and it holds the curl like a dream. Alas it WAS a bitch and a half to remove. Recently I found two formulas that take the FLE WP off effortlessly: the bebe young care formula for waterproof eye make up be it the wipes, the liquid remover or the cleansing milk, all three take the FLE WP off. My favorite out of the three is the cleansing milk for dry and sensitive skin because I can just massage it into my lashes when I take my face make up off and it removes the mascara completely without irritating my eyes. Now that I have a working remover I wear this quite a bit.

20130823-215020.jpg

Catrice Evolution to Revolution Ultra Black Volume Mascara

The Catrice Evolution to Revolution is a 2 in 1 mascara. Step 1 gives a very natural finish as you can see above step 2 thickens the lashes and makes them quite spidery and clumpy which occasionally I absolutely love. This one has been discontinued but I will happily use it up. I love that I have this clumpy messy option on my arsenal.

20130823-215041.jpg

Maybelline The Rocket Volum’Express

The Rocket is one of the most hyped up mascaras I have read about in a while. Everybody seemed to use it and I fell for the hype. In the beginning I absolutely hated it. It didn’t hold the curl at all which is one of the things that makes me toss a mascara out without looking at it twice. For a while I paired it with FLE WP and loved the results because it gives massive lashes, a bit like the Evolution to Revolution only better. The more it dries in the better it seems to get, though. I quite like the result you see above. I might give this mascara a second chance even though I won’t repurchase it. I can’t be bothered to wait for a mascara to become good. It better be great from the beginning.

20130823-215149.jpg

essence multi action blackest black

I don’t even know why I still have this. It doesn’t do much: It doesn’t lengthen, it doesn’t hold a curl and now it’s almost completely dry even though I didn’t use it at all. Out it goes. It has nothing on the old discontinued Black Mania mascara which I loved. For me it’s a gigantic fail.

20130823-215212.jpg

essence multi action

The original multi action is one of those that is quite hyped in Germany as well and with every right. It is a beautiful allrounder, quite an everyday mascara that you chuck on without worrying too much about it. Length, volume, curl, all there and at roughly €2,50 a complete bargain. One of my faves!

20130823-215228.jpg

Mac Factor Eye Brightening

I got this one in a promotion for a Max Factor liquid liner and I am surprised how much I love this. It is a reddened black with shimmer particles. I like the rubber wand, it gives definition to my lashes, curl and length are good and the red gives it a softer more natural look. I’ve been using it quite a bit lately but I don’t think I will repurchase it.

20130823-215303.jpg

Max Factor 2000 Calorie

This another one of my alltime faves. The 2000 calorie is super black and volumizing, holds the curl and lengthens. It is like a slightly blacker, fancier version of the the essence multi action. Even though at €8 it is significantly more pricey I’d still repurchase it, another great allrounder.

20130823-215313.jpg

essence all eyes on me

I love tonal mascaras like the Max Factor Eye Brightening. The all eyes on me for green eyes is green toned. Unfortunately it does pretty much nothing for my lashes. I got it on sale and it has been discontinued so no big loss here, I was still at little sad that it didn’t work for me.

20130823-215322.jpg

Catrice Lashes to kill

Another green-toned one is the Catrice Lashes to kill that came in a limited edition. Again I am no big fan of the formula. It just doesn’t give me the ‘oomph’ I am looking for. My lashes just look flimsy with this on.

20130823-215332.jpg

This is one of the reasons why I am so upset that Rimmel pulled out of the German market. I remember when I first started into make up about 13 years ago (shoot me now! i’m ancient) the Extra Super Lash mascara was the first that I loved and repurchased for a while. And then came the waterproof version into my life. I love the results this gives even more than those of the FLE, AND it is easier to remove. I hate that I have to order this online now if I run out. This was a staple that I may have to kiss good bye long term.

20130823-214927.jpg

essence get big lashes waterproof

Here we go with the first impressions: The result the get big lashes wp gives is quite feathery and flared which I like. It is a great option to have in my stash. It holds the curl. Even though I like the result it is not quite what I had in mind when I read get BIG lashes. I know essence is aimed at younger girls but they had way more dramatic mascaras in their range, and this is just not dramatic at all. We’ll see how this goes.

20130823-214947.jpg
Same issues I had with the waterproof version. It’s nice but not quite the big lash result I thought it would be. It is black, holds the curl but it is still quite natural. I will use this up but it doesn’t seem to be something special.
20130823-214907.jpg
And this is my make up remover of choice at the moment. The Hydra Active 3 Skin Perfecting Rich Cleansing Milk removes all of my make up in one go including the FLE and other waterproof mascaras without drying out or irritating my skin. I love this!
Round Up:
Loves: Max Factor 2000 Calorie, False Lash Effect Waterproof, essence multi action, Rimmel Extra Super Lash Waterproof
Hates: essence multi action blackest black, all eyes on me,
The rest is somewhere in the middle.
Maybe this helped some of you, maybe you had at least a good time reading this, I had fun creating this post 🙂
What are your favorite mascaras, is there one you think I should try out?
Have lovely week end!

Everything is Vikings and Nothing Hurts: Hair and Make Up Inspired by Lagertha

taken from televixen.com Hair loosely based on this pic

I discovered the TV-series ‘Vikings’. If you know me and you know the show, this tells you everything you need to know. If you don’t know me (or the show) here is what you need to know to understand: ‘Vikings’ is a show on the History Channel, written and produced by the team around Michael Hirst who also dreamed Showtime’s ‘The Tudors’ into being. ‘Vikings’ tells the story of the rise of Viking king Ragnar Lothbrok, who was one of the first to sail west to find new let’s say ‘raiding grounds’ for his people. A side effect was contact with the already christianized culture of 800’s A.D. England. The depiction of Viking culture is due to it being on the History Channel relatively accurate. This not about cliche- Vikings with horned helmets, this show has been carefully researched. And this is pretty much where my obsession comes in: Growing up, my parents instilled a great love for medieval and norse history into me and my sister. My first ever vacation when I was about 2 years old took me to Denmark and ruined me for any other places for the rest of my life (the year after, my parents would take me to the alps and I kept on complaining that I wanted the ocean and nothing else, like only a 3-year-old can). Even at that first vacation my parents had taken me to the big Viking research center and museum in Roskilde, where (amongst other things) they built a dragonboat and sailed all the way to America under authentic conditions. Pretty impressive, no? A couple of years later we went to the north of Germany and guess what? There was another archeological site/ Viking museum built around a harbour/settlement where again they had found ships and fortifications from way back when. The museum is especially targeted at families with young kids and there is really a lot to do both inside and outside the museum and my sister and I would make my parents take us back there every year. (I’ll put the links for  Roskilde and Haithabu (the center in Germany) at the bottom of this text.)
As I grew older I read more about Viking culture and the love for it never diminshed (admittedly there is also a particulary soft spot for bands like Leaves’ Eyes and Amon Amarth in my heart but that doesn’t really count, even though Vinland Saga and Njord by Leaves’ Eyes are absolutely exceptional works of art in my opinion. And I mean it’s music, it doesn’t have to be historically accurate.)
Back to the actual topic of this post: I’m a girl and a make up girl at that and of course I paid attention to hair, make up and costumes on the show. Responsible for costume is designer Joan Bergin, who researched Viking history and put her findings into the design of the amazing clothing used on the show (Article on Joan Bergin and the ‘Vikings’ costumes).
From the very beginning of watching the show I was fascinated by the character Lagertha (Lothbrok’s wife) and her hair and make up.
The make up on the show is obviously very natural and glowy, but the girls (and some of the boys, yes, Floki, dear, I’m lookin’ at you) tend to go quite heavy on the khol (coal :P) around the eyes  And here is my recreation of it:

I spend quite some time on the skin, using my normal combo at first (MAC Studio Fix Fluid NW10 + L’Oréal Perfect Match Powder in C/K1), then slightly bronzing the perimeter of my face, the tops of my cheek bones and the bridge of my nose with a powder bronzer (Catrice Sun Glow 010). To bring some glow back into my now rather matte face, i used a light golden loose glow powder (RdL Aqua Face Powder (limited edition last summer), any highlighter will do really. On the apples of my cheeks I put a rather sheer glowy peachy blush (MNY 301).
Now to the eyes, i wanted them to be rather shiny and smudgy at the same time, so I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in 65 Pink Gold (American equivalent should be 55 Inked in Pink) all over the lid, the I lined my upper and lower lashline with the Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Liner in 01 Black and smudged it out with a pencil brush, then re-applied a thin black line on the upper lashline and applied black powder shadow to blend out the lower line. Last I curled my lashes and used Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara on them and filled in my brows (Catrice Eye Brow Stylist 030 Brow-n-eyed Peas).
On my lips I dabbed some MAC Myth and blended it through with Maybelline Watershine Volume XL gloss in 703 Beige Up.

For the hair, I slightly back-combed my front section and pinned it back.
The I reverse-braided two strands of hair on each side my face and made sure they were braided very tightly
to my scalp. The upper two I tied together at the back of my head, the lower two I left hanging down on each side.

And here is the final look. I know this was another long one, I hope you enjoyed it anyway! Have a lovely day!
