Blogmas Day #25: Let’s Wrap This Up, Shall We?

I dropped the ball. I’m sorry. But let me take you through the last few days diary-style, so if you are interested keep on reading, if not, I’m not mad! I love you, thank you for giving me some of your precious time, I hope you enjoyed yourselves reading my blog, your participation made it all worth it!

Now to the other five of you that would like to know how my last few days went: just come along 🙂

On the 23rd of december I basically did nothing but clean. I cleaned the entire house which was a bit of a ride but VERY satisfying. My sister came home from bavaria, where she is currently doing a sort of volunteer year before going off to college next fall and at night we trimmed the tree as it is tradition in my family. We always put the tree up the night before christmas eve. When my sister and I were little my parents would trim the tree at night when we were asleep, decorate the living room and lock the door so that we couldn’t sneak in on the 24th and ruin the surprise. This year however we trimmed the tree together and had Disney’s A Christmas Carol running in the background which was so nice.

After a short night the 24th rolled around with more preparations for the main event, which is christmas eve proper over here in Germany and I mainly spent it with preparing the potato salad with my dad. A lot of families in Germany have potato salad and sausages on christmas eve for dinner. I believe I talked about this before, but the proper national dish of Germany is potato salad. Every family has their own recipe that has been handed down and perfected for generations. So if anybody tries to tell you about haxen and sauerkraut- nobody north or west of bavaria eats that. Sorry to burst that bubble. We do like our beer, though :D.
In the afternoon I had  a LOOONG shower and a proper pamper as I was getting ready for the night. I snuck in a cleansing and a moisturizing face mask and treated my body to some rose scented body oil. I wore the last christmas make up I posted for the night and essie sable collar on my nails. I am so in love with that polish! If it were up to me I would be perfectly content at the moment to go back and forth between OPI Russian Navy and essie sable collar.

After we all sat down for a cup of tea and chai latte, my dad lit all the candles in the living room and we all gathered our presents and sat down to sing some carols together, read the gospel and exchange presents. We had a lovely time!
Our christmas dinner consisted of smoked salmon and toast as a starter and then the potato salad and sausages. My dad and I had a lovely franconian white wine to go with it.
Then it was time for midnight mass. I am catholic so you can imagine it was quite a pompous affair but I love that. I love the lights and the organ, and that everybody is dressed up and super excited and happy. It is definitely one of my favorite services to go to. Afterwards we chatted with our friends, exchanged presents and basically stood in front of the church for over an hour keeping all the neighbors awake (oops :D). As it is tradition in my family we had a glass of bubbles before going to bed. Note to self: Don’t start watching Zero Dark Thirty while slightly tipsy and very sleepy. You WILL fall asleep, have weird dreams, wake up and wonder what the hell just happened. -.-

So now it’s the 25th, a day of rest in my family. We had brunch, I caught up on youtube videos, and now I’m sitting here wrapping up blogmas for you guys. I hate that I dropped the ball towards the end of it. I had been so good at first. Anyways, to you who are still reading, again, thank you so much for being a part of this! I really enjoyed doing this even if some posts were a lot of work but I loved every second. A special thanks to Ginger of gingerlovesmakeup! Thank you so much for liking and commenting, it means the world to me!
I’m waving blogmas good bye with a laughing and a crying eye.

I hope you all are having a great christmas with family and friends, and if you are not celebrating christmas I hope you have a lovely relaxing time! To all the people who have to work on christmas, medical workers, police, fire department, radio and tv stations, etc. thank you so much for your hard work, for keeping us safe and entertained!

Regular blogging will resume in a couple of days.

Good night and good luck everyone, see you soon!

Blogmas Day #12: My favorite Christmas Polishes (+a Rant and Shameless Self-Promotion ;) )

Hey everyone, how was your day?
My iPhone charger is about to give up it’s ghost and it freaks me out! Hopefully I get off of work early enough tomorrow that I can still pop into the store of my provider, hopefully they will exchange it, if not I’ll have to buy a new one -.- What really pisses me off about it is that I’ve had my new phone for less then five months and I really didn’t do anything drastic to the charger. Either way, fact is that I need a new one before I’m going on the 3 hour journey to Munderoon on saturday 😦 My earpods have been lasting over a year now, but a CHARGER is crapping out after less than half a year? Unbelievable!

Rant over! Let’s get to something a little nicer.

When I planned the schedule for blogmas 3 weeks ago, I had to include a nail post even though most of you will know by now that Snowhoney, Munderoon and I have a seperate blog for that.

As of yesterday this post that I’ve been wanting to do coincides with a christmas series that we have planned for the other blog. I decided to show you my 5 favorite polishes for the holidays + 3 toppers on here anyways. When it comes to swatches though, I  will have to ask you to be patient with me, they will be up over the next few weeks on the Sisterhood-blog as NotD’s.

All of the above should be still available even if as a dupe or in new packaging:

The first polish on the left was actually from an essence limited edition but Catrice carries a dupe now. It is a lovely purple glassfleck, opaque in two coats and it looks especially nice with a thick gel-like topcoat.

The next in line is a polish that is currently making the rounds on all the blogs and vlogs and with every right! It is essie’s Sable Collar from the Shearling Darling collection. It should still be available on essie counters, I believe Temptalia even lists it as permanent. Sable Collar is a pretty maroon shimmer with a greyish cast that give it a glow from within finish. I can’t stop staring at my nails at the moment! It was opaque in two coats.

Next is a polish that is still available, but with a different name and slightly different packaging. p2’s 221 charismatic is my perfect christmas-red shimmer. I have the old formula but I saw it yesterday in the new packaging at the counter. I’m fairly certain I am going to wear this on christmas eve.

Aaand here we have another essence polish. This one is from the color&go line and there is actually already a NotD on the blog. This beautiful neutral to slightly cool gold goes by the name 140 go bold!. It is opaque in 2 coats and all around festive.

Last but not least another p2 Color Victim polish and here you can see the new packaging. It is the number 830 perfectly good and I already wore this in an NotD as well. It is a pretty deep green cream without any turquoise tendencies to it.

You can tell that I like quite conservative colors for christmas but I’m afraid that’s how I like my christmas in general: very traditional. If you are interested I could write you a post about our christmas traditions.

BUT I do like to give those traditional colors a slight twist so here are my favorite top coats:

I love me my crackles! I have a red cream one from yet another essence collection, which I like to wear over gold and the golden one from the same collection I like to wear over red. Or green. I might even like it over Sable Collar. Hmmmm. Crackles I tell ya!

The polish in the middle is by German indie brand Kosmetik Kosmo and is one of the most fiery holo top coats I have ever seen! I want to try this over green and I already know I will wear this as a gradient over either a black or dark blue for new year’s eve!

Do you already know what to wear for new year’s? What are your favorite colors of the moment?

Blogmas Day #11: A Big Bun and an Iddy Biddy Haul

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen!

How was your day? Lovely, I hope, mine was a bit meh, but that’s okay 🙂

I thought today we  could do something a little more chatty and relaxed. First off I am going to show you the result of me playing around with my big bun cushion that I hauled 3 weeks ago (time really does fly, doesn’t it?) at Primark and then I kinda did some shopping. Oops! 😀

The bun with a bun cushion is super simple. Just tie a ponytail at the height that you want it, put the bun cushion over the ponytail, drape your hair over it, tie it down with another hairband or hairpins and tuck the ends under and away. My hair is so long by now that I sometimes braid or twist the ends together and wrap them around the base of the bun. I like the results they I got a lot. Next time I want to really ‘attach’ the bun to my head so that there is no visible gap anymore, but I don’t quite know how yet. Work in progress 😀

Like I said, I was a little naughty and did some shopping. Initially I went to look for christmas presents for my girls, oh well… I did find something for my dad though 🙂  I know at least some of the stuff that I want to get, my problem now is to find what I have in mind. -.-

Let’s get to the haul, shall we?

I had a bit of a rough week, so I thought I’d buy something to treat my poor dehydrated, scratched up, bruised skin and went for the alverde Relax Oil Wildrose and Sea Buckthorn. It is 2.95€ for 100ml and a blend of essential oils with a lovely rose scent. I used it on my hands and it is very smoothing and hydrating. The scent is quite strong at first and then slowly fades, but it is not overpowering to my nose. I can’t wait to use this after my shower.

Another skin care bit is the alverde limited edition body butter collection. I snapped up the very last one, after I have been on the hunt for this ever since I heard it would come out. I love the alverde body butters! Snowhoney gifted me  one for my birthday and it one my heart over right away. I have already repurchased it and am on my second jar now. The alverde body butters are very hydrating and they sink in very quickly! They may not be as hydrating as my balea Soft Oil Balm, but they come close.
The limited edition set has three 50ml jars with special christmas scents: cranberry chocolate, vanilla cinnamon and baked apple; very sweet and creamy. The set was 2.95€.

Technically, this belongs on the Sisterhood-blog but I fell for essie’s sable collar when I saw it sitting on it’s display. In the bottle it is a maroon glow-from-within shimmer with a grey cast, I can’t wait to paint my nails with this and it definitely will be a NotD on the Sisterhood-blog soon. (7.95€ for 13.5ml)

My last stop was the Yankee Candle corner at our Karstadt department store. I’ve been stumbling across more scents on other blogs and the Yankee Candle website and the descriptions sounded so nice that I just had to take a look at them. And of course I couldn’t leave without buying some -.- This time I went for Red Apple Wreath and Christmas Memories. Both are very cinnamon-y and spicy. Red Apple Wreath is a little sweeter and fruitier because of the apples obviously, Christmas Memories smells a little more like gingerbread (and is currently filling my room, even though it is still wrapped in plastic). I wish they also had the Christmas Eve tarts but they were out. Other scents that I need to get tarts of are November Rain and Salted Caramel but they never seem to have them. I also picked up a back up Witches’ Brew, they were on sale and I really really loved the scent.
Oh by the way, I found out today that one of my all-time faves Cinnamon Stick is supposed to smell like cinnamon and cloves, which is exactly what Matthew de Clairmont of A Discovery of Witches is supposed to smell like. Doesn’t get much better than that. 🙂
