[Preview] Catrice Treasure Trove for Mid November 2015

I’m gonna do something today that I haven’t done in a while and that is to bring you the press release for the  upcoming Winter/Christmas limited edition of Catrice.

What can I say, I saw the packaging and may have hyperventillated a little. White and gold and stars. I mean STARS! The products seem to tick all of my boxes as well. Of course I don’t know anything yet about the quality, but Catrice has a good track record when it comes to quality. I would still suggest to not buy blindly and wait for some reviews, plus Catrice has recently been really good at providing testers with the LE trays. But enough with the yapping let’ s look at some pictures:

Above you can see the three lipsticks that come with the collection. The cheat sheet that Catrice provided us with speaks of ‘intensive color’, ‘light texture’ and ‘subtle shine’. From that I would assume that they fall in the ball park of the usually black packaged Pure Color lipsticks which are usually creamy and pigmented with a buttery  sheen. The colors ARE very basic with nude, coral and red BUT I’m not sure if I can contain myself because of the packaging. I MIGHT go for the red (not that I already have enough of those).

And this is the reason why I won’t be able to contain myself. If you click on the picture you can see the bigger version and you will see stars in the best way possible. Of course taste is a very personal but I think in terms of a drugstore Christmas LE Catrice are really knocking it out of the ball park packaging-wise.

Nailpolishes are usually one of Catrice’s strength and after they got their brushes in check again, it should be fine. I do like the golden caps because I personally find them easier to wield, they do however make storage a lot harder. The colors fit with the collection and according to the cheat sheet they all have a pearl, no creams.

The eyeliner is another product that is going to lead me into temptation because it is golden. I love my colored liquid and gel liners and if this liner yields opaque color I’m gonna want it.

The cool tone of this gold should make it work for a lot of skin tones. I personally prefer sheen over sparkle so let’s hope there is none of that in there. And of course the embossed stars and the clear acrylic packaging definitely appeals to me.

The cheat sheet calls this blush a combination of ‘warm rosewood with champagne highlights’. I would say the color is relatively unique in the drugstore because it is quite red. The blush seems to be the same size as the highlighter so you’ll get quite a nice amount of product.

Eyeshadow Palette:

And last but not least the actual treasure trove of the collection: A neutral eyeshadow palette. Not overly cheap at 7,99€ but if the palette has a decent size (and it looks like the shadows are about the size of MAC shadows) it comes down to 1€ per shadow. The cheat sheet says, the palette contains matte as well as shimmery shades and the shadows are supposed to be silky-smooth and highly pigmented. Catrice shadows can be hit and miss, let’s hope these are a hit.

Here is the lid of the case and yes, it makes my fingers itch and my wallett weep but MAN the design! Also it looks like a plastic case (Catrice uses cardboard boxes a lot in LEs but apperantly not this time) and the cheat sheet mentions an integrated mirror. Sounds pretty good to me and I will definitely look at the palette.

Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Are the colors too basic for you and the packaging too kitschy or are you about as excited about the limited edition as I am?

Blogmas Day #10: [Christmas Make Up #2] Glittery Lips

Jeez Louise, what a day this was. First off I am running on 2 hours of sleep today, insomnia has me in its ugly paws again. Secondly, the busdrivers in my state are on strike, so I couldn’t get to Uni in the morning, thank goodness my professor was understanding and didn’t add it to my missed-a-lesson-list. As I couldn’t go to school, I went to work early. I worked for 10 hours straight and now here I am waiting for my pizza to get cooked but also very eager to share another Christmas MU with you.

Well, eager-ish. Two things are wrong with this post: 1) I don’t like the pictures, the lighting was horrid and 2) by no means does my camera the sparkle on my lips justice. Either way I picked out the pictures that I didn’t absolutely hate and I will tell you what I did:

Photo 09-12-2013 16 44 35I wanted to put the focus on the lips this time, so I did a very neutral eye with a soft powder liner and applied a glowy rosy blush.

What I did to my lips is actually super simple but it gives a great effect (I think at least). I applied a matte but still creamy lipstick ( in this case MAC’s Deeply Adored) and coated it in cosmetic glitter (MAC Reflects Pearl). It was SO nice! My lips sparkled from every angle and looked in person a little bit as if they were coated in hoar frost. I wish I had pictures that do the effect justice :(.

I chose a creamy lipstick to give the loose glitter something to stick to. Obviously you can use any color and finish you like, lip glosses might work for this too! A nice aspect, I found, is that the glitter seals the lipstick into place and makes it almost kissproof with out drying the formula out like a powder would, which makes this a very long lasting lip look. I made it safely and with barely any loss of color through eating dinner -> great for parties, or long christmas eve festivities as they are held at my house.

The MAC glitters (they have various different shades) are available in the pro stores and from the website. essence, however, has sparkly shades in their pigments range that you could use, which comes one heck of a lot cheaper than the MAC ones or you could just google cosmetic glitter and I am sure you can find cheaper sources than MAC on the internet. Please be aware that many cosmetic glitters are sadly not eye-safe, as they are basically ground glass. Using them on your lips will surely not hurt you but please double check that you can use them on the eyes before you put them there!

Yes, the glitter lips are bold (especially with that base color) but I am seriously tempted to wear them on christmas eve! What do you think? Should I try to pull it off?

Unboxing RiRi Woo: Comparison and Swatches

Skadi had to examine the parcel too 🙂
Soooo, I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t help it. I had to. Even though I probably shouldn’t have. Anyways, I did. And here it is: RiRi Woo
I also bought the Stackable Travel Jars. No more logging around big shampoo bottles for a weekender *yay
Here you can see the embossing, and the new shape of the lipstick.

It is absolutely beautiful: A deep blueish almost pinky-cherry red, that comes off a little brighter on the lips than it looks in the tube. And it is possibly the mattest matte I’ve ever seen. My lips look like they have been powdered. I love that. But it is not for everyone, I know. Despite being such a hyped up limited edition product it comes in the regular MAC bullet with the RiRi signature embossed on the lipstick.
MAC has also changed the shape of the lipstick, I don’t know though, if just for this lipstick or for all that are to come.

I’ve been wearing the lipstick for roughly three hours now and so far it is holding up very well even though I had a big dinner and some tea, and despite being dry RiRi Woo doesn’t seem to be drying.

left to right: Red Racer, RiRi Woo, Deeply Adored, Dark Deed

I compared all of the red MAC lipsticks I own with RiRi Woo because I was worried it would be too close to one of them and therefore redundant but I think this lipstick is because of its finish so unique that the purchase for me is justified. On the back of my hand it does look quite similar to Red Racer, but in my eyes Red Racer is less blue, warmer and definitely glossier than RiRi Woo. Deeply Adored and Dark Deed are each darker and more berry or plummy respectively.

left to right: Red Racer (Satin), RiRi Woo (Retro Matte), Deeply Adored (Matte), Dark Deed (Amplified)

I love how even Deeply Adored is glossier than RiRi Woo. If you wondered what the difference between Matte and Retro Matte finishes is: Matte is in fact shiny compared to Retro Matte 😀

RiRi Woo will be available again in June. If you love matte reds and are okay with a rather dry lipstick you will love this one.
