[Preview] Catrice Treasure Trove for Mid November 2015

I’m gonna do something today that I haven’t done in a while and that is to bring you the press release for the  upcoming Winter/Christmas limited edition of Catrice.

What can I say, I saw the packaging and may have hyperventillated a little. White and gold and stars. I mean STARS! The products seem to tick all of my boxes as well. Of course I don’t know anything yet about the quality, but Catrice has a good track record when it comes to quality. I would still suggest to not buy blindly and wait for some reviews, plus Catrice has recently been really good at providing testers with the LE trays. But enough with the yapping let’ s look at some pictures:

Lipsticks:

C03Treasured Twinkles

Above you can see the three lipsticks that come with the collection. The cheat sheet that Catrice provided us with speaks of ‘intensive color’, ‘light texture’ and ‘subtle shine’. From that I would assume that they fall in the ball park of the usually black packaged Pure Color lipsticks which are usually creamy and pigmented with a buttery  sheen. The colors ARE very basic with nude, coral and red BUT I’m not sure if I can contain myself because of the packaging. I MIGHT go for the red (not that I already have enough of those).

And this is the reason why I won’t be able to contain myself. If you click on the picture you can see the bigger version and you will see stars in the best way possible. Of course taste is a very personal but I think in terms of a drugstore Christmas LE Catrice are really knocking it out of the ball park packaging-wise.

Nailpolishes:

Nailpolishes are usually one of Catrice’s strength and after they got their brushes in check again, it should be fine. I do like the golden caps because I personally find them easier to wield, they do however make storage a lot harder. The colors fit with the collection and according to the cheat sheet they all have a pearl, no creams.

Eyeliner:

C01Golden Grace

C01 Golden Grace

The eyeliner is another product that is going to lead me into temptation because it is golden. I love my colored liquid and gel liners and if this liner yields opaque color I’m gonna want it.

Highlighter:

C01Golden Grace

C01 Golden Grace

The cool tone of this gold should make it work for a lot of skin tones. I personally prefer sheen over sparkle so let’s hope there is none of that in there. And of course the embossed stars and the clear acrylic packaging definitely appeals to me.

Blush:

C01Caviar And Champagne

C01 Caviar And Champagne

The cheat sheet calls this blush a combination of ‘warm rosewood with champagne highlights’. I would say the color is relatively unique in the drugstore because it is quite red. The blush seems to be the same size as the highlighter so you’ll get quite a nice amount of product.

Eyeshadow Palette:

C01Blaze Of Glory

C01 Blaze Of Glory

And last but not least the actual treasure trove of the collection: A neutral eyeshadow palette. Not overly cheap at 7,99€ but if the palette has a decent size (and it looks like the shadows are about the size of MAC shadows) it comes down to 1€ per shadow. The cheat sheet says, the palette contains matte as well as shimmery shades and the shadows are supposed to be silky-smooth and highly pigmented. Catrice shadows can be hit and miss, let’s hope these are a hit.

Here is the lid of the case and yes, it makes my fingers itch and my wallett weep but MAN the design! Also it looks like a plastic case (Catrice uses cardboard boxes a lot in LEs but apperantly not this time) and the cheat sheet mentions an integrated mirror. Sounds pretty good to me and I will definitely look at the palette.

Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Are the colors too basic for you and the packaging too kitschy or are you about as excited about the limited edition as I am?

My Favorite Summer Nude

20150621_141522

Nail swatch of Crew First! also absolutely LOVE the bottle design!

Part of my Project100 was to teach me to only buy things that I really need and would wear more than once and so far I am doing really well. One addition to my nail stash (which still needs to be broken down further – I’m still far away from my goal of 50 bottles period) is Crew First! from the essence nauti girl limited edition. I absolutely loved the idea of the collection with it’s nautical inspiration and mixture of crisp white blue and red.

Crew First! is a very light salmony pastell color. Not quite as light and airy as essie fiji or find me an oasis, but close enough that I can pull it off. The color is a few shades lighter than my skintone so to me it is the perfect nude. To me it makes my hands look really clean and put together. One of those colors that you can chuck on and it is going to be appropriate for any event that is coming your way that week.

The polish goes on a bit streaky but it was okay for me in two coats, but I would let the first coat dry a little bit before the second to avoid bald spots. Three coats would probably make it completely perfect.

It lasts 3-4 days on me until it starts to chip, which is solid especially when you take into account that I work with my hands a lot.

In the picture you can see 1 coat of OPI Nail Envy, 2 coats of essence nauti girl Crew First! and 1 coat of Seche Vite.

The polish is limited edition but the trays just arrived in my hometown so I think you’ll be able to still get it if you like. I bought this polish with my own money.

Btw: Crew First! is ever so slightly lighter and less brown than essie spin the bottle. Close enough for a dupe? You decide!

[Up Close and Personal/ Organizing my Life] KAUFSTOP! Liberation from Consumerism

As I am waiting for the construction workers to get ready in the bathroom so I can actually leave the house and get on with my life, let’s address a question that is going around with me for a while: I HAVE TO STOP BUYING STUFF!

Photo 08-07-2014 13 24 28

Recently I realized that I spend too much money on things I don’t really need. Like, who needs 6 foundations? I have just the one face and it is not like they are all doing different things. And let’s face it (no pun intended) I keep on coming back to the same ones, while letting the others collect dust and you know what the worst part is? Catrice is coming out with two more foundations that I really want to try. Why on earth would I want that? I have three foundations that I really love, two of them I will repurchase once I run out. I still really like the other ones, so I will use those up and let it be.

Here is my contract with you guys: I promise to use up all of my extra foundations, those that didn’t make the cut and not to buy any new ones. Absolute Kaufstop! (I love my language sometimes, basically translated directly it would be purchase stop).

The two foundations I will repurchase are MAC Face and Body which has a sheer glowy finish for summer and good skin days and Max Factor Facefinity 3 in 1 which does everything my beloved MAC Studio Fix Fluid does with a slightly higher spf (20 vs 15) and it comes in at less then half the price.

Next stop: Blushes, Bronzers
I have 4 bronzers and more blushes then I care to admit and the worst part, they are all similar shades -.- Absolute Kaufstop here, too (even though not going for the MAC and Marge Simpson blush really hurts) I have more blushes than I can use up in a life time, I haven’t hit pan on any of them. What rationally would be the best here is to weed out blushes that don’t perform as well, and the nth dupe of the soft coral blush in my collection. It hurts. But it is necessary. I don’t need all this, I can’t use up all this. Maybe I’ll let my friends go through the blushes maybe they want to pick one for themselves and the rest will have to go. And this time I will have to take my MAC collection into account as well. Any drugstore blush that is a dupe for a MAC blush will have to go.

Lipsticks/glosses:
Same thing. Dupes need to go, and I can’t buy any new ones. Colors that look funny on me need to go. I need to break it down to one lipstick for any shade. I will let myself keep different finishes of the same color though,

Photo 08-07-2014 13 22 57

We can go on like this for everything; Mascara, eyeliners, eyeshadows, etc. Fact is I have to stop. No matter how much I crave something. It doesn’t make me happy longterm. It is like an addiction. When I buy something new, especially color cosmetics I am happy for about 5 minutes and then I have to feed the beast again. This cannot be healthy. It is unnecessary luxury that I should spend on keeping my body healthy because if I have learned anything, it is that good food and excercise is keeping me happy and sane, not buying more eyeshadows that I don’t wear.

Please by all means, don’t take this as me telling YOU what to do, this is me telling ME what to do! Do whatever makes you happy and if that is going shopping go for it, hell, it makes me happy. But not happy enough. I can only be truly happy when I am on top of my financial situation and right now I don’t feel balanced. This has to stop.

And yes, this has to extend to nailpolishes, too. I made my last purchase yesterday and that has to be it. Nailpolish is my ultimate craze, but I realized that there is barely a polish that I ever wear more than once. I would love the satisfaction of using up a polish and I don’t mean top or basecoat here, those are necesseties like skincare, which are obviously excluded from the buying ban. With this I cannot promise that I will STOP completely but I will definitely buy very selectively from now on. I may go into detail on the sisterhood blog.

Also no new books except for the ones that I have on my list which are Deborah Harkness The Book of Life, Rob Thomas Veronica Mars- Mr. Kiss and Tell and Ken Follett Edge of Eternity. No new music and dvds either, I have Amazon Instant which should keep me happy and there is no new music coming out from my favorite bands.

The challenge is on as of now and indefinitely. I scheduled the first update for a month from now. The hardest part will be to stay honest with myself. I will make a list of all unnecessary purchases aka The List of Shame and we will go through it in a month. Bear with me if you like. Again I don’t mean to go judgemental or preachy on you all, this is my journey but sharing with you helps me to stick with it.

There may be more ‘organizing my life’ posts going up soon. I am going deep into my thesis now and I need to stay organized and focused, planning like this helps me a lot.

Blogmas Day #12: My favorite Christmas Polishes (+a Rant and Shameless Self-Promotion ;) )

Hey everyone, how was your day?
My iPhone charger is about to give up it’s ghost and it freaks me out! Hopefully I get off of work early enough tomorrow that I can still pop into the store of my provider, hopefully they will exchange it, if not I’ll have to buy a new one -.- What really pisses me off about it is that I’ve had my new phone for less then five months and I really didn’t do anything drastic to the charger. Either way, fact is that I need a new one before I’m going on the 3 hour journey to Munderoon on saturday 😦 My earpods have been lasting over a year now, but a CHARGER is crapping out after less than half a year? Unbelievable!

Rant over! Let’s get to something a little nicer.

When I planned the schedule for blogmas 3 weeks ago, I had to include a nail post even though most of you will know by now that Snowhoney, Munderoon and I have a seperate blog for that.

As of yesterday this post that I’ve been wanting to do coincides with a christmas series that we have planned for the other blog. I decided to show you my 5 favorite polishes for the holidays + 3 toppers on here anyways. When it comes to swatches though, I  will have to ask you to be patient with me, they will be up over the next few weeks on the Sisterhood-blog as NotD’s.

All of the above should be still available even if as a dupe or in new packaging:

The first polish on the left was actually from an essence limited edition but Catrice carries a dupe now. It is a lovely purple glassfleck, opaque in two coats and it looks especially nice with a thick gel-like topcoat.

The next in line is a polish that is currently making the rounds on all the blogs and vlogs and with every right! It is essie’s Sable Collar from the Shearling Darling collection. It should still be available on essie counters, I believe Temptalia even lists it as permanent. Sable Collar is a pretty maroon shimmer with a greyish cast that give it a glow from within finish. I can’t stop staring at my nails at the moment! It was opaque in two coats.

Next is a polish that is still available, but with a different name and slightly different packaging. p2’s 221 charismatic is my perfect christmas-red shimmer. I have the old formula but I saw it yesterday in the new packaging at the counter. I’m fairly certain I am going to wear this on christmas eve.

Aaand here we have another essence polish. This one is from the color&go line and there is actually already a NotD on the blog. This beautiful neutral to slightly cool gold goes by the name 140 go bold!. It is opaque in 2 coats and all around festive.

Last but not least another p2 Color Victim polish and here you can see the new packaging. It is the number 830 perfectly good and I already wore this in an NotD as well. It is a pretty deep green cream without any turquoise tendencies to it.

You can tell that I like quite conservative colors for christmas but I’m afraid that’s how I like my christmas in general: very traditional. If you are interested I could write you a post about our christmas traditions.

BUT I do like to give those traditional colors a slight twist so here are my favorite top coats:

I love me my crackles! I have a red cream one from yet another essence collection, which I like to wear over gold and the golden one from the same collection I like to wear over red. Or green. I might even like it over Sable Collar. Hmmmm. Crackles I tell ya!

The polish in the middle is by German indie brand Kosmetik Kosmo and is one of the most fiery holo top coats I have ever seen! I want to try this over green and I already know I will wear this as a gradient over either a black or dark blue for new year’s eve!

Do you already know what to wear for new year’s? What are your favorite colors of the moment?
