Sunday Round Up #24: The Consumerist Version

Good Day, Ladies and Gentlemen!

I hope you had a good week, mine was a bit crazy and left me rather scatterbrained, so I’ll try to keep this week’s Sunday Round Up organized but I can’t promise anything.

how cute is my little parcel?! ❤

First things first, I won a giveaway on my lovely friend Ginger’s blog and the prize arrived on friday. I won the Manhattan and Only Square Dancer eyeshadow palette which includes a shimmery white, a matte pinky-red, a slightly blue-toned satiny grey and a warmer yet deeper grey. As a little extra present she included two Miss Sporty products: the Mini-me lip liner in 050 Red red wine which is indeed close to my beloved Kate Moss for Rimmel 107. I tried it on today and it is very soft and doesn’t tug on the lips at all, I really enjoyed wearing it. She also included a Miss Sporty Dr Balm Gossip Kiss SOS, which is a very nice sheer tinted lip balm, it smells like melon and is super moisturizing. Unfortunately it arrived here broken but I will fix that, I just haven’t decided if I am going to melt it down completely and put it in a tin or if I can just kinda melt it back on.
And because I am me I already did a little face of the day with the new eyeshadow palette. The colors are nice if a little sheer but that’s nothing a good primer can’t fix.

I love love love my gift, it was such a lovely pick me up to win in the first place and to receive a parcel in the mail is always great, no? Thank you so much, Ginger! ❤

Oh by the way, wanna see me with freaky eyes?

There you go. iPhone noir filter at work and no, I don’t have any contacts in.

What else?
I went a bit mental in the stores this week. I picked up the MAC Face&Body foundation which is quite possibly one of my best decisions ever. It is healthy glowy skin in a bottle. Seriously, it is so friggin’ amazing, it lasts all day and it is completely invisible on the skin and super light. I accidently made another friend of mine, The Bookbeauty, buy the foundation as well and she said it goes on like water. Which hits the nail on the head pretty much, but I will stop freaking out right now because I have done that in my haul post already. I know I have quite a bit of redness in my skin at the moment because hormones but once that calms down again, the foundation should be perfect.

On top of that I popped my Under Armour cherry and picked up raspberry pink layering top and a grey v-neck shortsleeve which will come in super handy in the summer because it is a special material that is super light and soft and on top keeps you from sweating. It IS work out gear and I will wear it as such but let’s face it I will wear those tops out and about as well. I am so glad that Under Armour is available in Germany now (even though it pisses me off that everybody and their mother is wearing Under Armour now, when I have been pining for it for years and just couldn’t get it until now, gah.) Next months funds will be sunk in Under Armour as well, fyi. I really need those work out clothes!

Oh, and my Veronica Mars movie finally came. I got it from the UK and I am so glad I got it. I loved that movie in German but in English it is even better. And they already announced the second Veronica Mars novel for October ’14, so I am an all around happy marshmallow this week.

Aside from that there is not much more to report. I am re-watching Sons of Anarchy at the moment and it is SO good even though it really messes with your head I find. Still love it though.

Music-wise I’m still stuck on what I’ve been listening to for the past weeks.

I’ve been wanting to include my empties but there are so many and the post is already so long that I decided to put them in an extra post.

And now it is time to put a ginormous tick under this week and move on into a new hopefully mega productive week! Let’s do this!

Sunday Round Up #18

Good day, guys! How was your week? Mine was stressful, with a lot of work strewn in but towards the end it got much better. Once again hard work paid off, I am always glad when that happens. Also, my contract at work turned into an unlimited one, not that I would want to work there for the rest of my days but it is nice to know, that my job is not going anywhere. Anyways, here is what I’ve been playing with over the week:

1. Make Up Stuff

I did some shopping this week and I picked up two basics that I will get a lot of wear out of. I chose essence Cookies&Cream eyeshadow in 02 Macaron, c’est bon a light peachy-pink shadow with a silver-white sheen. It is a baked shadow, which I am normally not a big fan of, but all of the baked powders from the Cookies&Cream collection be they shadows or the blush are incredibly soft and smooth. I believe I have never touched any powders that were so soft. And I was a good girl, too! I only picked up the shade that I didn’t have in my collection yet and left the other shadows and the blush which were dupes to colors I already own at the store. Yay me!

The other shadow I picked up was Babushka me from the Kalinka Beauty collection which was on clearance. It is a medium neutral golden brown with a satin-y sheen. I didn’t have such a brown in my collection and it is a great crease color, very subtle but gives a nice sculpting effect. I am wearing a look with these two shadows today  and I am really pleased. The shadows hold up great and are very nice and subtle.

I found a new lip combo while going over my stash  and it contains – lo and behold – a lipgloss. Over the last couple of weeks I had a big issue with dry flakey lips and nothing could heal them. The only thing I could do was keep them as moisturized as possible. Recently I have been wearing Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in 070 Airy Fairy a lot. I still like my nude lips but when I don’t have time for a strong eye I need a little more color on the lips I find, so I don’t look completely dead. Airy Fairy does that. It is a light mauvy pink with a creamy finish, it is not drying but it is also not the most moisturizing lipstick on the block (blog?). To add a specialy moisture boost I added the No 7 High Shine lipgloss in Smile. The color is similar if a little lighter than Airy Fairy. The gloss goes on very balmy with a creamy sheen and it is indeed very moisturizing as promised on the tube. In combination with Airy Fairy it becomes an opaque moisturizing cream with a beautiful buttery shine on the lips, very cushiony and soft. It really covers imperfections and smoothes over the lips, I am in love with it!

2. (Cold) Tea

‘This is a bit of a sensitive topic. I feel like I fell for a scam. Let’s face it I DID fall for a scam. And hundreds of people with me. Turns out every tea is a cold tea. So there.
Well, the weather has become really nice and warm here, finally and I had to break out my favorite tumbler again and dig out my cold teas. Only problem: I have a green tea, a black tea and only one caffeine- free peppermint tea (what else). Now, after my mum said that those cold teas must have been processed in some way to yield flavor in cold water I kinda had to prove her wrong and went ahead and dipped any tea bag in my collection in cold water and lo and behold (I have to stop using that expression!) it worked. Cold water may not be able to pull as much color out of the bags but it definitely flavors the water enough for me. What I like about my cold teas is that the flavoring is light and therefore really refreshing and at the moment I have at least two usually three or more cups a day. Needless to say that I have been really good about meeting my hydration goal lately.

3. Broken Book Ban and new Music

Well, well, well. I did it. I broke the book ban. I bought a new Susan Elizabeth Phillips book, devoured it and it was okay. Next I received the new Veronica Mars novel. I devoured that and it was REALLY good. I am so sad it is over and we don’t know yet when the next one will be out, only that there is going to be another one. If you loved the series and the film you will love the book. Oh, by the way, I’m still not able to download the film from iTunes. I should just give up and wait for the dvd (which will be out in July).
Aaaand I went to the library today. I wanted another Fitzek but I ended up with two Hjorth & Rosenfeldts’, books 1 and 2 in the Sebastian Bergman series. I’m about 15 pages into the first and I like it a lot so far. But really, if you got something from the library you are not really breaking the book ban, right? Right!

The new Delain album The Human Contradiction (can we please stop for a second and appreciate that name?) launched on friday. Because I ordered directly from their record company my copy arrived on wednesday, woohoo. And woohoo indeed, it is really really good! The lyrics are probably a little darker and the sound is heavier but I love that. All of my favorite bands seem to go heavier at the moment and I am so ridiculously pleased about that! I still need a little more time with this album but, yeah, so far I really REALLY like it.

4. Empties

Quick round of empties before I let you go: I finished a pack of my peppermint green tea. It happens to be a cold tea but I love this flavor so much I would have bought it anyway and it so happens I already have a back up, it is just so good. Next up is my Naomi Campbell Cat Deluxe At Night shower gel, love the scent, I’m on the second bottle of the perfume and really liked the shower gel. This came with one of the perfumes, I won’t buy the full size though, I still have enough shower gel to finish up before I can even think of buying a new one.
I finished a bottle of my Elnett  Ultra Sleek hair spray. Smells nice (roses!), does the job and doesn’t make my hair crisp or oily, already have a back up of this in use.
Last but not least I finished my trusted Balea Wellness Foot Lotion Grapefruit Mint. Liked this stuff a lot and will have to get a comparable product soon. Unfortunately they don’t do this particular scent anymore, will see what they came up with for the new version. Actually I might even take a look at their more moisturizing offerings, whatever tickles my fancy.

That’s it, a big tick under this week and now on to a happy successful new one!

Sunday Round Up #15

This week has brought a couple of new responsibilities, as my mother is at the hospital at the moment and it falls to me to keep me and my dad alive and keep the household in shape. My dad is working 10 hours a day and I really don’t want him to have to worry about food, the laundry, etc. So the first thing I am going to mention this week goes in line with all that:

Photo 10-03-2014 01 07 11

1. Cooking and baking
I have been cooking my first curry this week and it went rather well. It could have been a little more spicey but aside from that I think it was yummy. I try to stick with the low carb theory on my food as much as I can and find healthy options with loads of fresh produce and little meat. Yesterday my dad and I made red cabbage from scratch which I love and I baked a low carb cake, which turned out really chocolatey and nutty and I don’t think you would miss regular cake at all. I really want to try the low carb lemon muffin recipe I found for saturday and turn them in not so low carb lemon cupcakes for us to snack on while watching the Veronica Mars Movie, which brings me to:

2. Finishing Veronica Mars and how great this friday and saturday are going to be
I finished my Veronica Mars re-watch and I am now all sorts of ready to watch the movie on saturday with my best friends. I still can’t believe that we actually got this movie made and that it is going to be released all over the world on the 14th via vod. It will be released in selected German theaters as well and I will hopefully get to see it there, too, but that I get to share it with my besties on saturday means the world to me. Granted out of the three of us I am the Veronica Mars nerd (or marshmallow, as we like to call ourselves), Snowhoney has seen the show and likes it too and if I am informed correctly it is going to be Munderoon’s first proper contact with Veronica Mars. I already got to see the first 8 minutes of the movie and I found so many little references, which are not important generally but I know which episode they go back to and that makes me fangirl every couple of seconds over the whole thing.
On top of all this my favorite band Subway to Sally are going to release their new album on friday and I have already pre-ordered it. I hope amazon manages to deliver it on time. The little samples I got to listen to sound more than promising.

3. Eye combo of the week
In the vein of the Veronica Mars re-watch I was inspired by her make up look in the last season. She wore a very shimmery grey-brown color with a strong golden sheen. I have something similar in my collection in the essence marble mania shadow 02 let’s get twisted. I normally don’t like baked eyeshadows but this one is really soft and has great color pay off. I blended it all over the lid and through the crease (mono-smokey eye) and then I used a black pencil to draw on a smudgey half line with a slight flick. Last but not least I used my new favorite mascara the Catrice Glamour Doll Waterproof. This stuff is incredible. It holds a curl like no other and really lengthens, fans out and seperates the lashes and it removes way easier than the Max Factor False Lash Effect. I am currently working on chapter 2 of Confessions of a Mascara Addict, so more on the mascara and pictures and such on there. Hopefully I can get it up this week.

4. Empties
I finished up a pack of bebe young care cleansing wipes for dry and sensitive skin. I really like those, the bebe cleansers are the only ones that effectively remove the Max Factor FLE WP without straining lid and lashes. It just comes right off. I bought other wipes this time but I have a hunch that I will come back to the bebe ones sooner or later.
I used up another tub of the alverdy body butter and already have another one on the go. I don’t think I have to say much about these anymore.
And lastly I finished up a Mexx woman Spring Edition. I wore this to work to use it up. It was just too fruity for me and I have no idea what got me to buy it. It was by no means a bad product but it didn’t suit my taste anymore.

5. Quick Project Clean Up Update
I spend most of the evening today reducing my eyeshadow collection. I tossed all of the bad quality shadows and the dupes of better quality shadows. I still have a sizable collection but it is way less than it used to be. I also tossed a couple of blushes. Very liberating I tell ya. Mind you those were all drugstore blushes and eyeshadows, my MAC collection will remain intact. But then again I don’t have any dupes or doubles in there…

That was it for me this week. It had darkness and highlights, but as they say, we need the darkness to see the light properly. I hope you had a week with more light than darkness and now let’s move on into a productive, light-filled new week.

Sunday Round Up #14: Routine Updates and more Organizational Stuff

Hey ho, guys!

This week was relatively event-free for the most part, so I thought I’d update you on some changes I made in my rountines

Hair-wise, I am currently trying Elvital’s Fibralogy shampoo. It claims to thicken the hair by washing something into it. Wild guess: silicones. Either way, I’ve been trying it for about 3 weeks and so far I am surprised. It does build volume and body in my hair (to be fair my hair is a lot shorter than it was and thus holds volume better) without drying my locks out. On top of it all it doesn’t make my hair greasier either which is always a win. I will have to update you on my hair soon anyway, because chopping so much off has changed not necessarily products but the way I use them. More on that soon.

Photo 16-01-2014 19 21 37

My skin is finally getting better, some of that may be attributed to my new daily moisturizer. I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks to be sure it actually works for me, doesn’t break me out, etc.
I am currently using the Diadermine Lift Intense+SPF. I did not choose this cream for its anti ageing properties but for the spf 30 it has in there. I am extremely fair and I was on the look out for a moisturizer that would give me at least spf 30 but wouldn’t feel sticky or greasy on my skin and make my foundation slide off. At first I was a little nervous to try it after I had seen the product’s buttery consistency. However, a little goes a long way and it melts upon touching it so you won’t have to scoop out all that much. It is just moisturizing enough for my dry/oily combo skin. On its own it gives my skin a healthy glow but I don’t produce any more extra oil than usually anyway. The cream has a certificate that says it is as hypoallergenic as humanly possible, it doesn’t break ME out but we all know that doesn’t mean anything.
I can highly recommend it, though. It protects me from the sun, at least for a while and it doesn’t disturb my skin and at roughly 6€ it doesn’t break the bank.

Other than that I am still playing with my nailpolish and make up organization, I also re-organized my DVDs with the result, that I’m still not happy. With either. Oh well, next week maybe.

Photo 03-03-2014 00 38 43

I finished watching Veronica Mars season 2 last week. I’ve been a major Veronica Mars fan ever since the show started in Germany and along with fans all over the world I was upset over the cancellation, and like all these others I couldn’t give it a rest. After almost 10 years since the first Veronica Mars ep aired we succeeded, we funded the movie via Kickstarter and in 2 weeks the movie will start on the big screen and it will be available for download all over the world via iTunes etc. The perfect moment to re-watch the show for the nth time. I still LoVe it. I understand some popculture references better, but it has lost nothing of its charm, snark and still uplifting tendencies. I still want to be V in real life *sigh I am currently watching season 3, which is not as painful as it used to be now that we have the movie coming. I guess what I am saying is, if you like, and don’t know her yet, go check out Veronica Mars on YouTube, fall in LoVe with the show and go see the movie if you can. You will not regret it!

That was that for my somewhat short Sunday Round Up. I hope you are all well and had a good week. Now, let’s get ready for a new productive, happy one.

Blogmas Day #9: [Media Update] Christmas Eps….

Today was a pretty productive day that hopefully kicks off a productive week! I went to job #2, sorted some grown-up stuff, took pics for tomorrow’s christmas make up – fingers crossed they turned out okay-, and now I have Awolnation on my ears (it’s love!) and I’m ready to blog up a storm before I take a long shower and snuggle in with my cat and Scherbenmond 🙂

Oh, do you want to see what I see when I blog? Here ya go:
